The idea of items that de-level you in an MMO with a multi-class based leveling system seems really smart. Not only does it become an interesting cost for more powerful spells and items, but it also doubles as a pseudo respec system. Like if you wanna change one of your classes, just de-level till it's gone then go level a diff class. Really neat honestly.

The only major downside I could see to a system is what would be needed to replace levelling as a progression system. Since many games use levels as one of the main goals of progression. By making levels easily obtainable, and expendable, there needs to be a different form of permanent upgrade to make up for it. In Overlord, it seems that it was mostly unique gear that became the main focus of progression. But eventually once all or most the unique gear is obtained, it basically just becomes a hardcore PK-style game. Which although has its fans, is actually quite an unpopular genre of game. So its unsurprising that Yggdrasil eventually became unpopular to the point of its servers being closed.

Lineage 2 did a variation of this actually, in my opinion its the game most similar to Yggdrasil I know.

This is not a new concept. It has existed in MMOs for as long as they have existed. (And the first MMO game went online in the 1970s... it was labeled as a MUD or 'multi-user-dimension'. Many MUDs and older style MMO games have utilized such mechanics and items within their games. Hell the entirety of North Circle and Diku MUDs is built on the concept of level changing mechanics.

With levels being exchangeable for other things, items and areas of the game in which levels can be lost or used to open additional areas of content. (MajorMUD and basically every Diku MUD has such mechanics mind you.)' With the equipment/gear that players acquire being the primary source of Stats, and having certain items or accessing certain areas of the game being the markers for progression. (Along with in-game titles or flag-type identifiers indicating things players have done/accomplished being visible to everyone in the game....) Hell, even the old games like Tradewars 2012 have such mechanics built-in.....

Yeah anime kinda fodderize his intelligence too much. In the LN we can see that he's very calculative and or resourceful. Just different type of genius focusing on battle strategy

Sounds like Ains actually had a rather strategic mind that was wasted in his human life, his limited experience was his main limiting factor but he seems to be over coming it abit. In the novel Ainz actually summoned two death knights. The second knight was summoned without the use of a corpse to see what would happen, and just like in the game the second death knight disappeared after a set amount of time. I know it may not have been worth mentioning, but I thought that was a fascinating little tidbit of how the undead summons work in the New World. I love your videos! I can’t wait for Season 4.

I’ll miss the Shield Hero Cut Content. However, I understand that it is difficult to keep up with the cut content since season 2 is deviating so much from the original story. I’ll be eagerly waiting for the second part of “How Strong is Naofumi?” Also, if it’s not too much to ask, I think that a video about your thoughts on how they handled the adaptation of the second season of Shield Hero would be nice. I loved the first season and it’s sad to see that the second season wasn’t well adapted.

Overlord is more like cut details shield hero is more direct cut or charged content. Not calling shield hero worst adaptation but it pretty low on the actual scale. Edit overlord adaption is clearly not as dark but that the main difference.

The early part of the series was honestly my favorite. The constant worry over where he ranks compared to the new world, the whole mess with shalltear confusing things, the constant misunderstandings and ainz always feeling as if he looked like a fool when everyone else was in awe of him, especially with the wise king debacle.

I remember how much fun ragnarok was in 2008 when I was in the 8th grade. First mmo I ever played. Started with assassin amd after making friends iended up with every type of champion maxed out level 155. Easy tk level up when your maxed out friend takes you to the hardest dungeon and allows you to split xp

I like to think that when Ainz found himself in the New World, knowing there could be other players like him there, he immediately found himself in a literal Dark Forest Theory scenario (basically meaning calling out to potential friendlies would alert any hostile beings to his presence as well, hence his decision to remain as silent and secretive as possible). And on the subject of other players, I had theorized for a while that anyone that was logged on when Yggdrasil's servers went down had all been transported to the new world, albeit at different points in its timeline, which is why some arrived hundreds of years prior to Ainz, and others that may not have even arrived yet. Unfortunately though, since he was the only one in his guild online when that happened, this would mean the chances of him finding one of his friends in the New World was essentially zero.
