I'm a Dalit, I've spent my childhood abroad and after I returned to India I never availed reservation benefits, competed in the general category, and proved myself on merit. Yet, despite being more intelligent, sharper, and even better-looking (if I may say so myself), people still didn't consider me equal simply because of my caste. It's a harsh reality that needs to be acknowledged. Now, living in the West, I find myself more accepted and respected among people from diverse backgrounds. It's not that I don't miss India - I do. But the truth is, we still have a long way to go in terms of social equality.

My solution to end descrimination: Dalits should be educated, they should know their rights, they should be taught confidence. Reservation is a paradox because when you say you have reservation to people they get to know that you are Dalit then they will look down on you and then you ask for reservation to compensate. Once a Dalit comes out of poverty and attains education he should stop calling him self a dalit with confidence and give up reservation. Half of the effort must be made by Dalits themselves to come out of discrimination. when you calling yourselves a Dalit you are saying that you belong to "lower category" human being, so do not call/identify yourselves as a dalit.

Because, like he said, dalit students are restricted to their 16% quota, not because they don't want dalits in open seats, but simply because there not enough dalit students breaking that cutoff barrier. And those some ppl scoring more than cutoff are hence, put in the quota just so that quota no is fulfilled and open students can be compensated. He's simply using the outstandingly better performing dalit students examples and making it sound like a norm. Again he says the dalit/obc/st cutoff is close to open. That too is incorrect. Obc cutoff might be close to open cutoff but there is marginal difference when sc and st cutoffs are to be looked at. Take CAT cutoffs for IIMs(all) for example for OPEN they simply have to be above 85, OBC atleast 75 and SC and ST its 54 and ST its 40 (all in percentile) I've also witnessed a scenario where simply after multiple rounds in UG medical college admissions the ST seats weren't getting filled bcoz the ST students weren't either scoring the cutoff/were inelligible bcoz they had less than 40% in boards. He keeps saying there is backlog, because lets say for any govt job exams even when their seats are reserved, there simply are not enough sc/st students clearing that cutoff and then some commission tells they can't go below certain score, and hence they are vacant

It might be not true everywhere but there are many places where people don’t eat from lower caste. Please visit some small towns and villages. You will see. Some help is necessary even if it is not reservation because Dalits face lots restrictions.

Dalits+OBCs+EcoWeaks be given completely free educations, transportation, houses, medical, 5kg per month per person upto a max 4nos per family each of pulses, wheat, veg oil+spices+salt, rice equivalent of Money in account, interest free loan of up to 20times of per capita income repayable over 15years for setting up businesses or perusing higher studies, 100% of airfare for study abroad (once in three years), 20times of interest free debt for industrial R&D, 2times per capita income to support studies so far the student scores >70% marks in the exam/s; This all student/ studies support until the age of 30years. In addition, State & Govt must open at least 15% of all categories of educational institutions ( nursery thru postgrad) with all faculties that only employ and educate such uniquely positioned

Throughout this guy only speaks about getting everything free. Why not Dalit who became prosperous open free schools, tuitions for other Dalit ? Why not Dalit build temple, society for themselves and then if they want they can stop other upper caste from entering there. I am not an upper caste but I have not seen lower caste supporting their own community , working hard etc. all they want without working hard. My grandparents came from dirt poor background, they taught their kids and in turn my parents taught us. We have reached to a level through shear hard work not by protesting, blaming upper caste, playing victim card.

Rahul makes many valid points regarding reservations. I might not agree with the side he is, as a whole, but I can definitely acknowledge with the many dalit issues he points out during this podcast. Casteism although fading away, is unfortunately still rampant in our society, so we can’t expect reservations to go away just like that until Dalit issues are remedied on not just the state but at a social level.

Reservations should be upto certain extent, like in medical, it should be only till mbbs and not in MD level, after mbbs, you are capable enough to fund your tution fees, also what i noticed in my government college during Md, max people who took sc/st seats, were more wealthy than general seat people, i am not against reservations but it should be limited to certain level
