I planted two of these last year in the front bed. They were only supposed to get 2-3’ tall, but are more like 5’ now! I was very disappointed when I realized the cultivar I planted Blue Fortune, is sterile meaning no seeds for the birds. Have you found the birds utilize as a source of food in late fall and winter?

I haven't noticed the birds but mine reseed which for me means free plants!

Northeastern native plant digest Do you recall if you purchased seed or at a nursery? I’d like to replace the Cultivars in time with the Native.

Hi Joe. Do you have any suggestions why my agastache which has been growing strong for 4 years hasn’t come back? It’s surrounded by black walnut trees if that helps. I’m in Ontario zone 5. I just saw 2 small shoots away from the main plant. I’m wondering if it skips some years or has run its course?

Thanks for the comment. Black walnut produces a chemical that inhibits the growth of other plants. I can't say for sure that's whats going on but could be. maybe try some in a different location and see if that helps.

I will try another location. I have 3 beds on city land. The monarda fizzled out after the first year now that I think about it. I transplanted my seedlings the way you showed from winter sowing. Have a good summer.

@@kitty4tify It's a short-lived perennial plant, destined to live 3-4 years max! You shan't worry because the amount of seeds just one plant produces at the end of the season, if collected and saved, you'll grow agastaches for the rest of your lifetime!

Even with pinching until July 1st, my agastache plants only peak-flowered for 6 weeks. In no way they did "flower until frost" like the books and online info say. The spikes started to turn brown around mid-September already and that really disappoint me.

I live in zone 7a and i bought some seeds, do you think its a good ideea to start the seedlings in mid february so i can transplant them outdoors later?

You could try that. I don't know what type of setup you have but It takes anywhere from 1 to 4 weeks for germination to occur. I know where I'm at I don't like to try and move plants outside permanently until May. Good Luck!
