Thank you. We definitely need more Holmes, given all that's going on in the world. There's nothing better for escape, intrigue, entertainment, and good writing.

Probably one of the darkest episodes. The transition on 2:06 is fascinating!

The music over the end credits is Serenade in A. Op. 96 \ Finale by Ferdinando Carulli. On the album "Together Again" John Williamson and Julian Bream play a great duet of it including largo, larghetto and finale... this version is probably closest to what you hear being played for the end credits.

Many thanks for making this available. One of Brett's better performances. Many early episodes are notorious for his shouting and overly theatrical style, but not here. Once he made the gradual transition from stage to film acting, there are many magical moments in the later episodes where the actor disappears and he seems to really become Holmes.

to be honest, I think sherlocks character possibly had a touch of asbergers. think about it. the coldness or sterility in relationships, the brilliance, the particular sensitivity to details and things absorbed through the senses. the author, conan doyle did base his character on an actual doctor that he worked with for a time so I think it's entirely possible that he was unknowingly describing more then just a personality type.

Jeremy Brett was affected for life by the character he created when playing Sherlock Holmes. I can hear Sir Arthur Conan Doyle yelling, "Bravo, you've got the character exactly as I've written it!" Granada Films recreated these stories with an eye on excellence and it's obvious in the final product. Well done to all involved with this Granada Films project.

There's a documentary on Holmes and Arthur Conan Doyle called, "Who Killed Sherlock Holmes?" and it goes into a lot of detail about the dark aspects of the author's life and what contributed to the character. You'd enjoy it.

@jlovebirch To be fair, the early episodes were pre-diagnosis with bipolar. The later episodes, he had started getting treatment. It wasn't so much theatrical style as much as a rampaging brain chemistry.

Loved this , Jeremy Britt looks like whats his name from Green Day. This performance are timeless . I m transported back to a time when England ruled the world. All of this from a time when people of England s rich didn`t know what else to do with thier inherited fortunes. A long look in the mirror a glance at one own mortality a kind of tongue in cheek :mindful" moment .We m,ight say today I think Jeremy`s feigned boredness at the state of affairs when nothing more interesting is happening "i think i`ll go get high " what Victorian malaise HaHa . Having Long John Silver as his co-conspirator is a nod to the authors mocking sense of :this is all too real The English are the penultimate satiricist in my opinion Doe anyone else get that Ha

I would add that there might be some observance of Holmes as to what might be in store for himself when he gets a little older. The parallels between the inspector and Holmes abilities and mannerisms should not be overlooked.

Did Holmes put his hand to his lips after shaking Inspector Baynes' hand? He really shows his respect for him, I guess.

Vladpryde you can always pause and play the credits. All music is listed or you can do deep internet work and put in music for this episode... I’ve done that with music on a series. Go to Apple iTunes and search for the song and it should appear. But

Vladpryde I looked and it says Patrick Growers did the music..

@@Heavenzvoice Nah, I think Patrick Gowers was responsible for the main opening sequence to the series, not that specific guitar solo.

More to be pitied. The reality of that time is losing to the reality of our time. Heck, if they cut out scenes of Bette Davis smoking in most Bette Davis movies, most of her movies would be a minute and a half long!
