I love how they actually have horse poo in the street. The attention to detail in this series is fantastic!

8:16-8:18 That was the best exchange of astonishment that I have seen between them thus far. The best scene of this particular part of the video yet!

@CosplayingCassie Not only that, isn't it great how Jeremy Brett takes control of the horse in that moment, as if he really lived in the 1880, not in the 1990s. That is what all great actors need to remember. Thanks for uploading these masterpieces anish79

The set decorator and props masters and location scouts for this show should be given enough awards to fill the Albert Hall.

This Watson, in my opinion, is definitive. Even better than the man who replaces him in the 2nd year of the series. He's a very good actor, and exactly as described by Doyle.

+Ronnie Moore I think he's ideal, too.

A solicitor is a type of lawyer, in common law countries such as Britain, who may only provide legal advice outside of court. This is in contrast to a 'barrister', who is allowed to appear in court.

"Not as good as the book, but still worth watching." Actually, it is a story, not a book. And in my opinion, this story (and most in the Brett series) is actually better than the original stories. Yes, some things have been changed, but to satisfy the movie screen. The acting is first rate and so are the Victorian sets.

This rewrite of the story makes a lot more sense and suspense than Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's. In the book, rabbit bones were used in the fire, and there was no murder of the tramp.

+Rick Shaddock Not quite correct. The story is vague on exactly what bones were used by Holmes does mention "rabbit bones" as a possibility. The plot really is not plausible for many reasons: any lawyer would have torn to parts any case with the body of the missing man not being found. And lawyers cannot benefit from wills they draw up.

Yeah, it def. gives more reason for the bad guy to be arrested at the end. In the original short story, he didn't kill anyone.

I agree the book scenario is unlikely, although, you might be surprised- if a person was examining the charred pile after a very severe fire with the preconception that there HAD been a murder, seeing any sort of bones (along with remains of human clothing) *might* make a bumbling police inspector jump to erroneous conclusions. Although Holmes himself no doubt wouldn't have been fooled. (and wasn't.)

The man who plays Lestrade is perfect. Exactly as described by Doyle. In fact, it is amazing (in the main) how well cast these episodes are and how well they are put together. But this is one of Doyle's weakest plots: any lawyer would immediately question someone being held for murder without a complete ID of a dead body being found.

The episode changing it so an actual murder took place definitely improved on the original story IMO.
