This video is about her going back to her origins. She started as a brazilian funk singer in the Rio's Favelas. She lived in one of these communities. The video is also a political statement since there is a bill trying to prohibit funk (the number of the bill is the same as in the motorcycle plate on the beginning of the video). Also the video showcases a lot of the favelas culture: the tape bikini (women do this to get the perfect tan), the bars, the music, the happiness and the poverty.

As in Brazil there is no separation between man and woman, same boy and girl . The interaction free is normal, Men and Women can be friends, there is no rule. In korea the woman has to act in a way, be cute, have a pattern, be thin. In Brazil women are the same as men, they do what they want, they drink together. That's why there's no such thing as seeing ass and breasts, or men in underwear. For Brazil this is normal, you see in beach, club etc. for you it can be shocking, but for us it is normal.

a lot of sites are translating "vai malandra" as "Go naughty" because its more musical but malandra doesn't have the same sexual connotation as naughty, it's more like a mischievous girl, "malandragem" in Portuguese could mean the type of person that make some things in the line of legality and illegality (more the second one), misleading people and that sort of thing, but when you apply it to a girl it's a "typical" girl from the favela that it's not a saint (likes to hang out in funk parties and so). Can be an adjective to identify a girl who dresses in the funk parties style, and embraces the favela culture as well. But it's is important to know this background because all the video is about the favela culture. And "bumbum" is ass in Portuguese so you will hear a lot of this word in Brazilian funk lol. "êta" or "eita" is an interjection like "wow" He is singing "Go, mischievous. Wow crazy, I'm playing with that ass." And the rest of the song is about they dancing funk together. Funk dancing is mostly about shake the ass so that's why the funk songs are too much about the ass and the guys going crazy. And yes, in Brazil it's very common ass surgery but also genetics are really strong here in this matter. The girls in the video have very natural looks because anitta is showing her roots in the favela. Oh, about the bikinis it's true the girls use it to get the more perfect tan lines, but it's not very different from the actual bikinis we often use. They are really small like that and we are used to it. Show our body is not an issue but because of that foreigners often are rude to the Brazilian women so most of Brazilians don't like that Anitta is showing this images of our women to the world. But we love Anitta, can't help it lol

The difference is that Vai Malandra has a typical funk beat and Anitta appeared in this musical segment in 2012, which implies that she is honoring the style of music that consecrated her as a singer. Yes, this is funk! Anitta started her career in funk but lately she has been exploring many other genres, but it's really nice to see her claim her roots. Funk music is usually centered on sexual concepts, mostly because it's not music people would sit down and listen to with their headphones on, it's more like a summer party kinda vibe. +Lucii DD I just posted a comment explaining that a lot of sites are translating as "Go, naughty" but "malandra" is less sexual and more about favela culture. because the "Baile funk" or typical funk parties in favelas usually are organized by trafficants and people that are in the line of legality that are often known as "malandragem" so a "malandra" originally was a girl who was a criminal or the girl who likes to hang out with criminals but now it's a slang for the style of the girl who embraces the funk and favela culture or some times its used just to refer a girl that is from a favela (in this case often is pejorative). So, as the video is all about embracing the favela culture, they use "malandra" to refer Anitta as a woman that only do what she wants, kind of in a naughty way, but also makes reference to this background of funk culture.

As a artist who is gaining more internacional attetion, here in "Vai Malandra", Anitta back to her origins and shows a little bit of what is the brazilian music this times. Anitta started with Funk and after trying a lot of type of musics, like Reggaetón, Pop and Eletronic, she back again with this genre. There's a lot of culture shock in this videoclip and as a brazilian, I'm proud she exposed the culture of the minor classes here in Brazil. Brazil is a naturally beautiful country.

This song is a cultural resistance manifesto, guys, it's not about the lyrics or the beat or the ass, but all of it! With that MV Anitta came back home, reminded the world she loves where she came from and that we should not be ashamed of our backgrounds. It's all very crude even to me, but after a few seconds it all comes together and becomes rather familiar. The imagery is way more empowering than the song itself, and I see it as a political move against conservatism, which is growing like cancer in Brazil, the land of Carnaval and samba. Obscenity is a price easily paid for art's sake, and that's what she did. It's Third World, miscegenated pride!
