As a day 1 Anji main who's still new to fighting games in general, I can't thank you enough for this guide and how comprehensive it is. Big props. :)

Great video, I think this helps everyone since you explained everything pretty well. I'll add some of the stuff I use for butterfly oki: Small dash -> 5k -> forward jump cancel ->falling jS or land 2k. pretty safe high low mix up, the first hit of shitsu into the 5k is gapless and if anyone except ky does a reversal they should get hit by the eagle before hitting you, you can also jump cancel the jS for some weider stuff. Weakness is backdashes after they block the 5k Against people who backdash a lot I like using kara cancel nagiha, you can get a pretty good combo from it too. Dash up (throw range) -> 2k -> throw or 2D can also be good once they're conditioned to block, they have to backdash or tech the throw which will get caught by the 2D, if they just block they get thrown. So if they choose wrong they'll eat another shitsu mixup in addition to some big damage potentially. If they guess right you're still pretty safe. If you wanna be funny dash -> instant air dash makes the second shitsu hit cross up. Can be useful as a really unexpected option. Getting a meterless combo from 5D should also be possible but I'll have to try that once I get back home.

js/2k is not a good mixup, it can be fuzzied or simply locked as you'd block any jumping attack, high until landing and then low. I think that airdash back j.s/2k would hit much closer though, like many airdash back mixups in this game

This definitely helped me a lot! I now use the 2K > 2D after Shitsu to create a true blockstring and it helps me A LOT in online matches. Thank you so much for making this!

How come do you only have 264 subscribers ? This is the first time I see videos designed to teach a specific mechanic of a VS game character that is this long, edited this well, with a cool voiceover. You deserve so much more love for this hard work ! My sparring partner is an Anji main, but he isn't really a training mode fan like I am, I'm gonna send him your videos so he can step up his pressure a little bit :P

Thank god Shitsu was added back to the game, it's the biggest reason I got into Guilty Gear through +R Anji. The unblockable loops were fun, but just not having to worry about most reversals with Shitsu IAD jS is good enough.

Hey, love your videos, just one thing i would like to add, im trying to implement fujin hop fast prc slash which allows you 5o get c.s. after it! Its one of the great overheads which leads into hard knockdown or wallbreak but does requiere the 50 tension! Thx again.

Thank you! And yes, I'm aware of various metered options - that being said, I rarely, if ever talk about meter usage in my videos because metered strategies are only applicable some of the time, while meterless strategies are applicable all of the time. I want to provide information that is useful in as much gameplay as possible. It's important for people to learn the basics before they learn how to throw the rules out the window with RCs, imo. For now, I'm happy directing people to the Twitter and Discord lab monsters if they're particularly interested in diving deep into various metered options at specific times.

Instant air dash jH after shitsu works against pot and gold lewis when they are crouching
@Napstablooky2 жыл бұрын
What do you do against Faust that ducks butterfly? The timing is all messed up when it hits him late, you can't go for throw since he goes into blockstun during the normal timing

great video! is there a good way to punish opponents who back jump in-between the two hits? if they do it a couple times I try to hard read with kou to keep going the pressure into the air and back in the ground but it's risky
@NewMillenniumYT2 жыл бұрын
Yes! Check out 8:26 again - 2K > 2D will catch up-backing between the two hits, as it's impossible to jump while still blocking low. Make sure you get the timing of 2K > 2D right as any 4 frame gap or larger will let the opponent jump away into the situation you're mentioning. You want to catch the jump's startup frames - you're very right about trying to hard read Kou into pressure being riskier and less rewarding.

Anji's overheads are definitely lackluster without meter but with meter his BRC overhead is quite good, it's rather fast and leads to decent combos. Link if you're interested: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4W5lYZ9rM9_jqs
@NewMillenniumYT2 жыл бұрын
While that's true, every character is much better with meter ;) I purposefully try not to get into metered setups because optimizing meter usage and learning which uses of meter are worthwhile at what times is something you can add onto your gameplay once you learn the basics. I'm no top-tier competitor, but I've found 5D into RRC is generally very sufficient for when I need an overhead and I haven't found a real reason to do anything more complicated.
@ewanphilip56042 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the response! I definitely appreciate the focus on meterless stuff as it's always reliable. I hadn't looked too much into RRC but that makes sense, I guess the launch into the wall carry/break is the important thing.
@unlurkingsentinel68722 жыл бұрын
How did you actually manage to make Shitsu > 5D gapless? I can't get it to work in training mode (Sol keeps 5King before it), and it doesn't make sense looking at the frame data either (if I'm reading it right, midscreen throw > Shitsu is exactly +20, there's not enough time to fit in a microdash).
@NewMillenniumYT2 жыл бұрын
I'm trying it again as well and it's totally possible I had mis-labbed this. These days, 2K 2D is all I ever use if I want a true block string for some reason (which is rare). If you want a meterless combo off 5D I'd learn the dash 5D timing, and if you want one where the opponent can't just mash immediately after Shitsu(1) I'd do either 5K 5D or 2K 5D. Thanks for pointing that out, I'll add that into the description.
@lemmingsouls2 жыл бұрын
I can't get dash>5d true block string - Sol's 5k hits me every time, and other moves are ch. Is it just me? (in real game no one was even close to punish dash>5d, but possibility bothers me)
@NewMillenniumYT2 жыл бұрын
It's not just you - doing the dash 5D in order to get the meterless combo follow-up after is NOT a true blockstring. You can do 5D without dashing as a true blockstring, but you won't be able to convert it into a combo without meter.
@bhglghb2 жыл бұрын
Great guide except most of it is invalidated by Faust's extremely low profile crouch. I would love to see a follow-up that goes over some counterplay.
@NewMillenniumYT2 жыл бұрын
Do you mind being more explicit about what doesn't work? Throw Shitsu 2K 2D still seems to work even with Faust's crouch crawl.
@bhglghb2 жыл бұрын
@@NewMillenniumYT Thanks for the response! I think I was a bit hasty in commenting. I didn't realize that he was only low profiling by crawling forward so you should be right that 2k 2d beats it. I may have also been mistiming my shitsu after kou knockdown some of the times.
@NewMillenniumYT2 жыл бұрын
@@bhglghb No worries! The Kou knockdown timing is more difficult since it's dependent on the combo that comes before it, so it's definitely easy to mess up the timing there compared to throw (where it's essentially auto-timed for you).
@bhglghb2 жыл бұрын
@@NewMillenniumYT Very true. By the way, all of your videos have been a huge help with learning Anji! You do a great job breaking things down in a way that makes it easy to understand and incorporate into play. I'm looking forward to see what you tackle next!
