This was a really helpful video. I'm currently doing walk-throughs on all 3 of these applications to decide which to use going forward, and you made the decision simple. Remnote's integration of flashcards directly into the notes blows the "Anki + Roam Research" out of the water. It eliminates redundant effort (e.g. creating Anki flashcards with the same info as the notes), and it ensures the flashcard has the correct & current info in the event of revision. Thanks a bunch!

Only big BIG problem is that rem note costs money AND it's glitchy.

I remember when I tried Anki for a few months. After spending hours making the flashcards and spending more time just reviewing them, I was dreaming of some app or tool like remnote which can display the notes just like any other document while also creating flashcards with a simple two clicks. And also the ability to Link Notes together. I was so disparate looking for such a tool that I even tried using power point and Excel for flashcards !!!😂 I KNOW

Haha wow PowerPoint and Excel ! Yep when I discovered RemNote (couple years ago now) my mind was BLOWN. To bring things to the present - I still personally struggle to use it exclusively because they're still developing and I experience bugs, but honestly I still think it is up there as one of the best tools out there by integrating flashcards and notes into one. Hope you're enjoying it and getting some good use out of it!

@@LiamGower yes I agree it has some bugs but for the past month my experience has been very stable esp. on the mac app . the iPhone app still needs more work on stability but for the sake of just reviewing flashcards on the go , it is more than enough for me .

Have any thoughts on Obsidian? One of the key differences is that all data is local. I feel a lot less worried, that if for whatever reason Roam Research had problems, difficulties, or needed to be shut down, that I would lose any work. I also feel like it's community may rival Roam's in terms of resourcefulness.

Late reply, but Obsidian is awesome with the Flashcards plugin for AnkiConnect. I moved away from Emacs a while back, I got too addicted to tweaking it and losing productivity, but I also needed to work in Markdown for some other reasons. Obsidian feels like the best Markdown editor and note-taking tool right now when combined with its best plugins. Unless you're into heavily customizing something like Emacs, you probably won't find anything better out of the box. Definitely not for free anyway.

Hey Liam. LOVED your video. I'd suggest you check your microphone. It was a bit hard to understand what you were saying. The voice sounded a bit muted. It could be my headset. But I hope you check it. Thanks again for the video. I am transitioning from Anki to Remnote for the last few days. Your video helped me validate my choice. Thanks!

Good Video, Thanks. I am wondering why do you require other tools when Anki itself is a note taking and SRS combined? Its a overkill to maintain a seperate note taking system when the same notes can be made out cards directly in Anki efficiently.

That's how i felt after using remnote for a month. I thought to myself "wait a second, after i take my notes i never see them in the order i took them anyway." So i just went back to anki. I put my notes in anki that are relevant to whatever I'm studying

@@malcolmjelani3588 Most of the youtubers jump from one shiny object to an another shiny object. They are in the business of selling courses and click baits. A boring yet powerful tool like Anki is not in their radar.

The problem with Remnote is that it has a steep learning curve. The initial step is easy, but once you dig deeper into the features it gets harder. Thanks for the comparison.

Thanks Hyde. I agree when I first used RemNote about a year ago, I was a bit overwhelmed with understanding backlinks, ‘Rem’, how to make flashcards inline, and so on. I think it’s worth pushing through the initial difficulty though on apps like RemNote and Roam. Once you’ve kind of adjusted to a new way of taking notes, I believe you can benefit a lot from it. Plus, there’s plenty of great KZbinrs out there with tutorials and workflows on all these apps! Thanks for watching!

I really like how RemNote was designed for learning, but is it usable at this point? Did you encounter serious bugs? Did you have any data loss so far?

Hey Liam, great video, I loved it. Could you please tell me what monitor and monitor stand you use in this video? I'd like to buy something similar for my small desk setup. Keep it up!
@LiamGower
@LiamGower Жыл бұрын
Hi Raekon, the monitor I have appears to be no longer available. But I've taken a look and found 2 almost identical monitors in terms of spec. This is identical spec, but not curved: amzn.to/3WqAyoG Or if you want a curved one, this is slightly better spec (100Hz rather than 60Hz): amzn.to/3NxJRPN Btw I've made these affiliate links, so if you do buy you'd be helping me out at no extra cost to you. I'd really appreciate it if you did :) Anyway, good luck with your monitor hunt!

Did you manually stop to record the ones you got wrong for your *got wrong page* or is there a way to access them easily?
@LiamGower
@LiamGower 3 жыл бұрын
Hey The Badjer, in this instance yes. As you’ll have seen I originaly took all my notes in Roam and then flashcards in Anki, but after when I took some practice exams, I would go and write out information I got wrong/needed to learn in RemNote so I could strategically review those. If I had originally taken all my notes in RemNote, 1) the built in flashcard manager would reshow me cards I got wrong soon and 2) I’d be able to go to a page/folder/Rem, and study only those related if I wanted to. Hope that helps you, let me know if you’ve got any questions :D
