Thanks for this video clip. I am struggling on foot wear for my fused ankle. I was never told about buying shoes a bit wider for my fused ankle.

Sir, your videos are by far the best on the internet to inform people about recovery. I'm 60 years old and have been an outdoors man all my life. I realized when I had this fusion done that it may change a lot of my activitys. I had surgery in March 2022 and now I'm going into the 4th month. Dr. has me in an air boot now and I go back next week. He told me that when I come back we'll talk about a shoe. Not sure what he meant??? Walking is not easy with this boot on but theres no way I could walk in a regular shoe (I'm using cruches). Whats next??? October will be 8 months and hunting season. I sure hope I'll be able to walk around with out pain. No one has explained things like you have and I'm happy I found your videos. Anymore info you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your comments. The healing process and the adapting to your ankle fusion will take a lot of time and a lot of practice walking on various terrain. The amount of time probably varies with every patient. Listen to your doctor, do what he says, and be patient. Eventually, you will be walking around and doing things with the new ankle fusion.

Tony. How are you doing now? Can you walk on uneven terrain? I’m 64 and the doc wants to fuse my ankle. I’m a very active guy, hiking, mountain biking, pickleball. I really hope I’ll still be able to do some kind of short sprint on the court.

Thank You so much for your very helpful ankle fusion videos. I just had my ankle fused two weeks ago after suffering for several years with terrible pain.I am 69 years old and while the pain from the surgery isn’t unmanageable, I am terribly weak and easily exhausted, that I didn’t expect. Hopefully I get my strength and energy back soon. Thank You again…😊😊😊

Ankle fusion is major surgery. Many people that have gone through ankle Fusion surgery say that their surgery lasted somewhere around four hours. So, the body is going to take some time to recover from a major surgery like that. Also you are having to use other muscles that haven’t been used in a long time because you have to get around without putting weight on that ankle. Hopefully you will start feeling better within the next few months. It does take a very long time for ankle fusion to heal. Also, it has taken me and others a few years to be able to walk around and do things that I want to do on various Terrain.

Great advice on width of shoes. I reckon it will be a while till swelling goes down. Looking online but will go to shoe stores to try on. Many thanks

Check out the comment section of this video for a reply that I gave to another viewer that gives another brand of shoe that has been recommended to me. I currently have that brand and like it very much. So I also use the other brand that I listed and talked about in this video. There are also some other viewers either in the comment section of this video or one of my others that talk about the shoes and brands of shoes that they recommend for people with fused ankles.

The other brand of shoe that was recommended to me is called Dunham and it also has a stabilizer bar in it for better stabilization so that your foot doesn’t roll.

Had a ankle fusion done 2 years ago due to an old motorcycle accident. I’m 54 and I’m fairly active. Poking around online looking for info on shoes. I may check out your shoe of choice. I don’t like memory foam cause they get stinky.

Thank you. I'm in Robinson, IL. I'm almost 4 months out. What did you wear after CAM boot? I had ankle fusion and mid-calf, tibia/fibula fusion. The bottom of my heel where the rod was inserted and the back of my heel where the longest screw went in are both very tender.

After wearing the boot, I transitioned to wearing shoes.

I wore an Arizona brace because I broke a bone in my foot a few years after my ankle fusion surgery. Why are you wearing an Arizona brace? You should discuss with your doctor the pain you’re having in your ankle and maybe he will have a solution for you. I am not a doctor so I cannot give medical advice.

This was so helpful. I have lots of foot/ankle problems and recently bought a pair of 928 shoes on a podiatrist's recommendation for Peroneal Tendonitis pain. It is unbelievable the difference these shoes made. Almost immediately the pain I've been having for 7 months under the outside of my foot and ankle went away. That is nothing short of miraculous to me. I am actually able to walk through a grocery store, on those hard concrete floors, without any pain now. I've just ordered a second pair of these. I want to keep one pair nice and clean to wear for nice occasions, and have another pair for everyday wear. And I'm going to get a THIRD pair just to wear in the house. I have one question: How do you preserve the leather on these shoes? I can already see scuff marks and wrinkles in the leather. How do you keep the leather from drying out and cracking? Can mink oil be used on them? I have the light tan/gray color 928 and I've been afraid to try conditioning them with the mink oil paste. I think it might darken the light color of the shoes. What do you use? Would appreciate your advice. Thanks!

I am very happy that you found some shoes that have helped you. I have not tried to treat the leather on any of my shoes. I usually buy a new pair of shoes every year and a half to two years and then I use the old shoes to work outside.

@@journeythroughanklefusion7532 Thanks so much for your response. I'm so glad you did this video. It made me feel that I made the right choice for my feet with the 928 shoes. What I also found so interesting is where you said that you were advised to get an EE width, even though you have a narrow foot. Has the EE width been helpful for you? Does the wider width cause any slipping up and down of your foot in the heel area? Thanks again for making this video. You provide great information from first-hand experience. Would love for you to do more about the 928! Take care!

@@sl2608 The extra wide shoe gives me more stability. The 928 also has a roll-bar for stabiliy. The shoe store where I buy my 928's recommended another shoe as well. It's brand is Dunham and it also has a roll-bar.
