A lot has to do with the type and severity of ankle sprain / injury, but it is unique to every athlete. Check them out for yourself with this deep dive on court playtest, review and teardown. As a foot doctor I look at basketball shoes and basketball shoe technology a bit differently as I focus more on what foot types benefit from these shoes as well as the basketball shoe's functional attributes on the basketball court

A2DX is the best I ever had . Had grade 3 ankle sprains a few times in my 25 years of playing basketball. So I had a few braces of these years and I can say that these braces showed in the video are top tiers for me and my needs . Combined with mid high shoes my ankles are well protected and stabilized . Grade 3 ankle sprains are almost impossible to get right now 😅

I've had an instable ankle (torn ATFL and damaged CFL) for 20 years now and I've tried dozens of braces. McDavid 195 and the ASO brace worked best for me, until I also got some problems in my Achilles tendon. They were aggravating it, as they were rubbing or pushing into the tendon. I couldn't use them anymore, but playing without a brace was a risk. I ended up self-taping my ankle. First I was doing a full taping job, but I gradually went down to a basic two piece taping that actually mimics the ATFL and CFL ligaments (I've realised that watching this video). It gives me enough protection for a couple of hours of tennis and costs less than the braces were costing (I was going through one brace in 2 months). It doesn't touch the Achilles tendon area at all and it also doesn't bulk up my shoe. P.S. Doing daily rehab work as well, since forever.

@@OGantRAGE I can only repeat what I wrote above. McDavid 195 and the ASO brace worked best for me, for some time, but I ended up taping my ankle before each session and I've never looked back.

What do you reccomend for a grade 3 sprain?. Atfl rupture. Also. Compression is good on ankle brace. Its good for lympathic drainage by breaking up injury scar tissue. Breaking up injury scar tissue is beneficial for healing process. As it causes the injured tissue to regenerate.p Of course. Your body breaks up scar tissue via light swelling during healing process. Compression can reduce swelling especially on a good ankle brace. I know your not familiar with this but something people should know.

I was born with club foot and walk on the outer edge of my foot. My heel doesn’t touch the floor , and I had Achilles lengthening and a mid foot fusion of bones, I now have a problem with anterior tendinitis which is sometimes excruciatingly painful. My foot and ankle push outwards and I wondered if the ankle brace A2 DX, would be strong enough to stop my foot pushing outwards. The only thing that I wear on my feet to counteract this is rigid hiking boots. Foot orthotics do nothing but help a bit with my foot callouses. Thanks for the video x

hi, I'm a cyclist, used to play basketball in school and still do so during winters. in high school approximately 17y ago i had a pretty nasty injury, i tore something in my ankle and it took me 3 months to start rehab. full recovery was around 5-6 months. since then i did not have anything like that fortunately but a couple of time i was close to a sprain, thus i think about it occasionally and i was wondering whether you would recommend wearing a brace as prevention. if so, which one would be the best? just bough the giannis immortality 3, have not played in them yet. I am a rather quick player, lots of steals and sprints, fast movements. thanks a lot! :)

I can see how the breadth of the Zamst product line worked well for you to illustrate the main types of braces and be able to differentiate them in terms of support and usage considerations. I'd appreciate it if you could clarify a couple things: (1) Recognizing that "the best choice" is always the one that best choice will always be the one that best fits an individual's unique need, are you also saying that the value the Zamst products offer is such that they should always be included in the evaluation ? (2) In a previous video you had good things to say about the PowerStep Dynamic Ankle Support Sock. How would you position that product with the Zamst A1 and Zamst Filista? Specifically, what would be the most important personal need considerations in selecting between them?

I purchased both the a2dx and the A1. I’m a shifty guard and felt more mobile in the a2dx but more bouncy in the A1. There’s a trade off. Also the compression on the A1 is a lot better but restricts motion more. It’s depends on what you want. I chose to stick with the a2dx, and I wear compression socks under to manage my tendinitis. Great company and and great braces 👍

Great video as always. I’ve been using Zander A1 for over a year now and it seems pretty good (apart from having had an ankle injury that stopped me from playing for about 3 months) but that was because I landed on someone’s foot and twisted my ankle. Not sure if the A2 would’ve prevented that. Also, I’ve noticed that when warming up, Stephen curry doesn’t wear his ankle braces. (I’m assuming he doesn’t either in practices). Do you know why that may be? Is there a risk of something if worn all the time when playing?

He’s almost cleared to play in games after 4 1/2 months of rehab. The medium is the right size, but he said the plastic piece on the side digs into his ankle bone. I always sprain my ankle landing on someones foot coming down from a shot or some unlucky incident (I play pretty aggressive/explosive/shifty). I call them "freak accidents" because there's nothing I could really do its just my foot was wrong place wrong time (and arguable the defender should be more conscious of their feet). Would the A2DX help in these scenarios and protect the ankle a little more? Or would the damage be transferred up the chain to the knee or something?

That's what I always worried about. I haven't tried it out myself though but I have asked several physical therapists this question and they all said that it shouldn't pose a threat to injure other body parts, at least in those type of situations where you commonly sprain an ankle (landing on somebody's foot usually). I personally never wanted to wear a brace and just strengthen my ankles instead but it hasn't been all to successful for me so I might also try out one of these braces now

Hey Doc, I had ankle ligament surgery 18 months ago. Going to start playing soccer again. Do I still need a brace and if so what level would you opt for. Don't want to over-do if it causes more problems but won't mind if its just extra protection.

My 13 yo daugther recently landed on someone's foot while playing basketball and got level 3 inversion ankle spain. She rested for 5 weeks and got rehab. After felt better, she started training again using A1 short but it couldnt give protection in high intens drilling. She feels pain when running in high speed and changing direction, also when jumping and landed on her weak foot Do you think i should buy her A2 dx instead ?

Hello Doc, recently i have a grade 3 ankle sprain and complete tear of my ATFL that i got from playing soccer and i already underone the surgery and still recovering, im planning to play again after fully recover , what are your recommendations of this Zamst ankle braces to use for prevention? Is Zamst brand actually works for soccer player because i hardly ever see a video review about soccer wearing this kind of brace. Thank u
@FootDoctorZach
@FootDoctorZach 5 ай бұрын
I would say these are probably the easiest to get into a cleat- the A2-DX is the strongest - most of the players that have a complete tear go with the A2-DX over the A1

Really torn between the A1 and the A2DX I have used the shock doctor level 3 for years since I had repeated injuries over 5 years and then every-time I would try and play without them I would just roll and sprain it over and over so I decided to just wear them whenever I play seriously. However I really dislike the laces on the shock doctor and have various common issues with those. I am an athletic player and want to keep my jumping ability and shiftiness but also want to prevent the ankle injuries that I most commonly get which is from landing on others feet would the AD1 or A2DX be best for this? Thanks in advanced to anyone who can provide some clarity!

Worth mentioning you can use an ankle brace with some barefoot shoes like Xero for those quick lateral movements and support to reduce injury. I can no longer play in regular tennis shoes because they are not zero drop or the stack height is like wearing high heels or the toe box is too narrow causing unimaginable pain.

So I just bought zenith lace ankle brace. Is it supposed to be very tight that it's pretty hard to put on my foot, or should it slide in very easily? Mine is pretty hard to put in. My feet is US8 and I bought size M, which the size chart said it should fit 7.5-10. I've never wear one of these before so I'm alarmed by the thightness and I feel I should have bought the L size instead
