Commenting on an old video, but this video has helped me so much with my ankle pick takedowns in the last 3 months. I added a small movement of my own by dropping down as Aaron shows here, but in an angular motion, almost off center as i fall. I noticed this causes uke to step forward and pivot the slightest bit. This puts a little more weight on that foot which gives me just the smallest bit of extra time to grab that ankle before they have a chance to pull it back. Awesome video and i continue to study it to this day!

Amazing video. I've been trying to work on my ankle pick for a good 5 months. Collected a bunch of different videos but now I see you've systemized this attack much better than my white belt brain could have 😂. I really appreciate your content.

New subscriber. Blue belt (was nearly purple) coming back from a five year layoff of training and trying to brush the rust off as fast as possible. I stumbled across your video because ankle pick used to be my go-to but I haven't done it in years and yours was the best video I found on the subject. Kudos.

This has everything from my last in person class plus a lot more context - I appreciate it! Your content kept me going when I couldn't train for medical reasons. I hope the move went well and your life outside of KZbin is going well Oss!

The last ankle pic you show when your opponent is in combat base is one I realized early on as a white belt and utilize often. Now I'm trying to develop my ankle picks from standing since wrestling shots can be harder.

Amazing video - both with regards to the core concepts and also gold like faking guard pull, or going after the other foot, etc. I'm new white belt, and have been failing at this. So appreciated to see this! Greetings from Hong Kong!😀

Thanks for all the great contents in ur channel .. question for this video ... are you not vulnerable to the flying triangle when u do the sit down before the ankle pick?
@aaronbenzrihembjj60145 жыл бұрын
Henri Tandradinata for the initial sit down and same side ankle pick you are for sure. You just have to be cognitive of that and if they jump it, make sure your knee is in and you end up in single leg x. It’s not a common move or reaction but it’s a definite threat.

Cool! I assumed you would always PUSH with the lapel hand, is that never the case, or is pulling just in the cross scenario? (As in same side = push, cross side = "wheel like pull")
@suneetsingh36 Жыл бұрын
Hi - in this move, doesnt the way you are falling straight down to do the ankle pick, hurt the knees, especially if done again and again?
@af4396 Жыл бұрын
Yupp. He is catching some of his weight on the collar of the opponent, but overtime that is still a lot of weight going directly into the knees over and over again. If you're worried about it, there are other variations if you have good reach, or there is also the knee pick.
@LarsAndersenFrihed2 жыл бұрын
Great instructions! Thx.
@amartailor16782 жыл бұрын
I literally felt the same about that ankle pick from combat base. I always wondered (still do) why people let me just.. push them over. I also feel similar when someone sits back too hard and I just shove them back - it's so simple it can't be real.

I really like this but I always tend to do it with a cross grip to the lapel and not a same side grip. You think a same side grip is much more beneficial?
@aaronbenzrihembjj60145 жыл бұрын
orestis nalmpantis yes, the cross grip has way less pulling power for the final off balance and way more give for counters. It can definitely work though.
@orestisnalmpantis5 жыл бұрын

@andrewferris19035 жыл бұрын
@@aaronbenzrihembjj6014 You should try pushing instead of pulling with the cross collar, that grip works better when you force their weigth onto their back leg in order to immobolize the foot for the ankle pick.. Watch Cael Sanderson or Penn State vids, they tend to push/circle in the opposing direction.

Best way to get your take down is not let them get 2 hands on you. Fight for your grips. Don't let someone get both their hands on. It's like watching a kids Judo class

You should not leave your arm in your opponents chest. An arm bar is easy for the opponent to do.
