I remember watching this as a kid and wondering how it was possible for anyone to NOT think that Olivia Newton-John was the best female singer in the world, ever.

When music was music and nobody lip synced. Love that groovy bass as well. When a live performance outshines the original now that is something you don't see or hear anymore. She knew how to sing then and still does now!!!

I saw this tour back in the 80's..one of the BEST "live" female vocals I have ever heard. She was spot on every single note throughout the entire concert

One of my favorite songs by Olivia.

And it's nice to know that ONJ *still* sings her entire show live, 31 years later. Just saw her tour in the UK and she was outstanding.

On this day in 1979 {June 15th} Olivia Newton-John performed "Deeper Than the Night" on the NBC-TV program 'The Midnight Special'... At the time the song was at #29 on Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; twelve days earlier on June 3rd it had peaked at #11 {for 1 week} and it stayed on the chart for 13 weeks... It reached #4 on Billboard's Adult contemporary Tracks chart... Between 1971 and 1998 she had thirty-one Top 100 records; eleven made the Top 10 with four reaching #1*, "I Honestly Love You" for two weeks in 1974, "Have You Ever Been Mellow" for one week in 1975, "Magic" for four weeks in 1980, and "Physical" for ten weeks in 1981... * In a duet with John Travolta she had a fifth #1 record when "You're the One That I Want" reached the top spot, for one week, in 1978... Ms. Newton-John will celebrate her 67th birthday in three months on September 26th {2015}...

Oh Olivia, I love you so much. You were so gorgeous and amazing. And you haven't lost that in your elder years either. My very best wishes to you and to your family as you deal with this cancer bullshit. I look at you in this video when there was no cancer, or I don't think there was at that point anyway, and it makes me want to cry. You were happy and healthy and bebop'n around. Remember those times, I know you do.. That's still you! Nothing in the universe can ever take that away from you! You are my sweetheart, and my friend, even though I've never even met you before. You take me back to my childhood, and to my youth in high school. I know the words to your songs so well that I could get up on stage and sing them with you. I hope and pray that you are okay. You are a beacon of light in terms of how positive you have been through all of this! It's amazing! It's amazing what one human being can do! You keep it up! If you ever need any kind of support or help or comfort, or somebody to just hug, you can always reach right the hell out to me! I am always here! Remember the song "Talk to Me" on Totally Hot? Well that's me, reciprocating the favor.

I've seen her live in concert.... I've been a fan of hers since I was in the ninth grade! When she did this song I literally begged my friends to leave immediately!!! And that's not because she was doing a bad job! It's simply because I didn't feel like I could handle the whole thing. She was right there in front of me, and I wanted to meet her so badly and I knew I couldn't, so I wanted to leave! My friends wouldn't let me.

@FylthyBeest Yes, Tom Scott was heading up Olivia's band at that show (don't know about the rest of the tour). At that point Tom was one of the most in demand studio musicians in the business. She acknowledges his performance as well as the band several times during the show

I adore you, I wish nothing but the best for you. This breast cancer thing, it's killing me. I hope you will be okay. I love you so much . I love you Livi. I hope you will be okay. @janicejanostak25458 жыл бұрын
+emta3 Mike They probably had to compress the song since it's being performed on a tv show, which is very common. (The musicians are also skipping the first two lines so it was definitely planned, not an accidental flub.)
