I just saw this movie last night and it FRIGHTENED the hell out of me. It’s so unnerving and had me at the edge of my seat. I had no idea it was even based on real life until the end. Just like Drew and Anna said here… it’s because as women, we’ve all been in those scary situations to some degree and you just click into survival mode about escape routes and your tactic that is gonna get you outta there and not set off the predator into an alarming panic either. Fn terrifying. Wish we were all living in a safer world.

I connected too well with the fauning reference myself 😕 that’s where the “why didn’t she leave?” And “why didn’t she run” come from… because she assessed her situation and in the moment fauning seemed like it had the highest survival rate 💔

Same. I read this comment from a man on a news article about a woman who had been forced somewhere at knife point and he said 'women! If a guy puts a knife to you scream' really annoyed me because 1. It's victim blaming and 2. That isn't always the safest option

Someone who I love and trust saw me watching true crime and they asked why, almost appalled. I didn't really have an answer because who really does? Am I watching because I may chance upon a killer and now have tricks up my sleeve to help me? No. But I said something along those lines anyway and I remember thinking that their reaction to that which was to comfort me felt strange. Then years later, I realised I was watching it to understand that same person. Not for anything true crime, yet I would describe it like I could be tortured for decades and come out more unscathed from that than this. It was my personal hell and back. True crime isn't about having that sliver of chance from the threat of death or abuse, but understanding that anyone and everyone is just one conscious decision away from making you unsafe.
