When Kournikova locked in she could be amazing... a shame her game never became consistent.

Yeah, I just loved her drive backhand and variety of shots.

This was back in the day when Kournikova could kick ass and beat the likes of Mauresmo (a multiple grand slam winner). Kournikova had every shot in the book and then some. She was a true all-court player, unlike many players today, and could do damage from anywhere. The backhand drive, as someone said, was exceptional when on and the drop shots were spectacular. He ground shots had plenty of power too: she could often overpower her rivals. The problem was being consistent, correct shot selection and all the fame, photoshoots, and distractions. If she had just stayed focused she could have been number one for a brief point. If Hingis could get there with less natural power then so could Kournikova - it's just Hingis had the most power where it counted: in her mind.

Hogarth Brown Anna would get utterly embarrassed by the women of today.

Wow, so young Mauresmo was, congrats to Kournikova on the win.

Kournikova is actually two years younger.

I forgot about how Anna won this match humiliating Momo in her home country. Anna was really on her way to doing some big things then she tore a right thumb ligament beating Steffi in the eastborne semifinals. She was never really the same after that and then all the serving yips came after that.

It has to be said Mauresmo was a total nobody back then. Yes she did show early promise that year though. Most of all Miami 98, beating Seles, Martinez, Sanchez, Davenport all to make the final and losing to Venus after being up a set and a break.
@ilovetati912 жыл бұрын
@@grantgoffin4774 lmao, she was ranked 34 and was coming off a Tier I Berlin final. Far from a nobody - and was only a few months from her Aussie Open final.
@grantgoffin47742 жыл бұрын
@@ilovetati91 almost 8 months is not just a few months. And if you are outside the top 30 in womens tennis which has no depth, you are a nobody.

Amelie had something about her. She had something special and mysterious about her. And when it comes to Kurnikova, she is definitely overrated and I don't see anything special about her.

Amelie is a woman, not some man. I don't know why most people call her some guy. You probably haven't seen real masculine women. Amelie has more expressive and stronger facial features, but that's no reason to think she looks bad.
