At 1:42, Waters' return was called out by I don't know who, but Todd made a legal return before play was stopped. When the video revealed it was in and the call was overturned, it resulted in a side out, which worked against Todd even though she made a fair return on the "out" shot. Does this mean Todd must have verbally made the out call? Because I don't see her make the call by raising her finger. If the out call was initially made by the ref, it should be a replay (serve again) because Todd made a fair return, she didn't quit.

she called it out and by that she stopped the game. That's why it was her fault. Referees don't call out for a back line in pickleball. only for kitchen faults

Much better that the Pickleball players are quiet, unlike the Tennis players. Are there rules in pickleball that the players should not screen?

it's an effective strategy in doubles, but not much in singles where you have a lot real estate to cover ..
@ray1johnson13 ай бұрын
It depends on your return (trajectory, pace, landing point) and what you think your opponent can/will do with it. Some players prefer to wait to see what develops before moving up and others sometimes aggressively moving up as a tactic to cut off angles and create unforced errors or easy volley winners.
@attybong3 ай бұрын
@@ray1johnson1 that's correct ... upon the other hand, in pickleball doubles game, the general rule is .. serve and stay, hit and run on the return .. even if your return is not deep, the ball is still not attackable because the serving team in that situation is prohibited from rushing to the kitchen and hit a volley .. they have to wait until the ball bounces before they could hit it and advance to the kitchen line .. even if the serving team chooses to drive the 3rd shot, the returning team could still easily reset the shot or counter attack because they are already at the kitchen line .. simply put, it is important for the returner to rush to the kitchen line after the service return and join his partner at the kitchen line to maintain that advantage against the serving team .. the only reason i could surmise why players don't rush to the kitchen line after the return is that they either are not comfortable doing it or not skilled enough to execute volleys and dinks .. in which, case they have to learn those shots if they want to play real pickleball .. enjoy the game !!

@@attybong, the one time you want to be careful about blindly rushing up in dubs is if your return is weak or bounces high in front court and your opponent might blast you with a body drive while you're running up. This applies in singles, too.
