I'm one of those rare people who enjoy both Tebaldi and Callas, and recognize that neither are perfect. However, I am more and more enjoying listening to Anna Moffo. What she may lack in interpretation at times she makes up for in sheer beauty (and I'm strictly talking about her voice).

This divine soprano left us already four years ago today ! (9th march 2006 - 9th march 2010) and we still look at all her youtube contributions and enjoy her voice.Isn't that amazing and nice for her? Я говорю о шикарном голосе и прекрасных внешних данных.Вот такая красавица и должна быть Виолетта ,в которую влюблялись и желали многие.К сожалению ,из-за голоса на сцену выходят внешне малоподходящие на эту роль певицы.Я понимаю ,что главное тут голос.И тут редкостное прекрасное сочетание и того и другого .К сожалению она недооцененная певица. Если речь заходит о певицах знаменитых то прежде всего Каллас ,Кабалье ,Тибальди ,а про Моффо забывают .Она нисколько не хуже.Ее тембр голоса мне больше нравится ,чем у Кабалье.

In the early to mid '60s, she was one of the top sopranos in the opera world. She had a beautiful voice. She appeared many times in SF and was one of my Mom's favorite singers.

Except when she tried to sing with a cold! I met her a number of times and had talks with her. She had a beautiful oil painting I did of her - hanging in her studio. She loved it!

Visually she was stunning, and looked the part. Vocally - sshe had her good days and bad days, as most singers do. But always was she a diva. I have seen Anna perform this role many times, and she never disappointed me.

We live in an era when we have become used to singers being cast because of their looks rather than vocal talent and half-trained voices that have never been on stage are touted as great opera stars! Anna Moffo was no trivial cross-over artiste. Her physical beauty could distract one from the quality of that voice and technique. Questa è stata una cantante storica...con una voce facilissima...certo la fisicità è prorompente; e bene fece a spaziare ...sempre con dovizia e intelligenza nei vari repertori...ahimè senza risparmiarsi...che la mise in difficoltà...ma mai...al di sotto della sua fama di virtuosa...l'aver studiato a Roma la spinse a dominare da par suo moltissimi autori ...diventando l'interprete ideale...e certamente visse in un periodo dove le Voci importanti erano decine...ognuna con il proprio bagaglio tecnico e esperienza...ebbi modo di ascoltarla in Puccini...sembrava un violino...nello stesso ruolo ascoltai ben tre soprano diverse...ottime cantanti...ma senza la padronanza scenica e un Glamour...così moderno della Moffo che metteva sull'attenti anche Tenori un pò "carichi di spavalderie e cineserie di vecchio stampo che a me di fronte a lei parevano ... vecchi Tromboni."Quando sposò l'operetta viennese...fece scintille!!!Simpatica e colta...spiritosissima.

Anna Moffo bravissima cantante lirica. E bellissima ha esibito la sua avvenenza anche nel cinema. Ramnento il film una storia di Amore con Gianni Macchia film scandalo per quei rempi era il i969. Un fim romantico e esistenziale e erotico. Moffo e Macchia sono bravissimi e bellissini entrambi. Vi consiglio di vederlo. Due personaggi che bucavano lo schermo

I believe Moffo made a film version of Traviata (late 50s?) in Italy. I have seem clips from it and her performance is truly spectacular. I agree that in her prime she was one of the best Violettas ever (as well as Manon). By the way, I LOVE the jewels and 60s high fashion in this TV appearance. Moffo could pull of high fashion like few others (opera or otherwise).

Почему же раньше были такие певицы, целый ряд, которые так пели Травиату? Сейчас очень трудно найти, чтобы радовало и слух, и глаз, пение. Постоянно какие-то то огрехи в технике, не говоря об образе травиаты. Может быть потому что рано начинают петь, эксплуатируют голос нещадно? Хорошо, что остались записи и хотя бы в интернете можно послушать совершенное пение. Отличное пение, но эталон для меня Каллас. В ней все совпало: техника, тембр, артистизм, который зашкаливает. Моффо- прекрасна в этой партии, это ее.

Найдете запись Травиаты с Венерой Гемандиевой на фестивале оперы а Англииоюсь ( боюсь ошибиться в названии города Гленборский. ) Лучшая Травиата после фильма Дзефирелли.

Yes, freespiritQC, she sang La Boheme in the early 70's with Luciano, but he was just starting to reach his peak and she was past hers. She also sang an opera with Domingo when he was even younger. Among sopranos who were also stunningly beautiful women, she was by far the best singer of them all. Sorry Netrebko fans.

I think in her time people used to dump on her for her lack of great coloratura technique, but that was because of the other amazing sopranos around. But you are right she is WAY better than Netrebko and Fleming..... combined!

I would actually list the following: Moffo (for all manners on the more lyric bel canto side), Luciana Serra (for mechanic coloratura), Barbara Bonney (all manners Mozart other than coloratura or heavier soprano roles), Maria callas (all manners singing like she’s in her own world and doesn’t give a fuck), and June Anderson (lyric coloratura that requires free vocals like flight) Other singers have great performances but these are the ones who are consistent.
