Anna Pavlova was the best all around gymnast at those Olympic Games, she deserved not only to win an Olympic all around medal, but the Olympic Gold Medal. She is in my opinion the best, and then Carly Patterson and Svetlana Knorkina third.
@saragrant97495 ай бұрын
Difference being Start value unfortunately. She had a couple of dance elements that were incomplete and in that code it was costly. She also had only a 9.8 SV in bars, and you had to have a 10 to be in true contention. Sad, but that’s how it worked out. I do believe she should have had bronze and Svetlana should not have medaled at all as her performance was much more lackluster overall.
@blinky704616 жыл бұрын
I think that Anna being underscored by the judges and repeatedly stuck at 4th is what makes Anna Pavlova loved by so many. Maybe it's a gift in disguise...even though I would've wanted to see her win the Bronze here (yet I love Zhang Nan). And the Vault EF at Beijing was just heartbreaking.
@mattj5391Ай бұрын
Anna should have won the silver and Zhang the bronze. Sveta was gifted that silver. She would have been 4th for me.
@lb76178 жыл бұрын
I feel so bad for Anna, she never got what she deserved... In 2004 she deserved the Bronze in the All Around and the Silver on Vault; and in 2008 she deserved the Bronze on Beam as well. It's just so sad :/
@saragrant97495 ай бұрын
She’d have earned those medals if not for two things- execution and start value. In Athens she lost bronze AA because of bars- 9.8 SV hurt plus a couple of dance element errors that cost in SV as well. That code was hugely strict on dance elements unfortunately. In Beijing she’d have won the bronze IF she’d completed that third element. Missing it hurt in both SV and execution, something she couldn’t afford. In terms of a vault silver? Start value was the key and Annia had a little more.
@lb7617Ай бұрын
@@saragrant9749 Did you watch Zhang Nan's performance in the all around here? She was a basket case with extremely low difficulty on bars with a very large step on her dismount, she was wobbly on her beam routine, and she had low difficulty on vault (only did a Yurchenko 1.5). Every routine from Zhang in the all around was so obviously overscored, maybe except for her floor. Anna on the other hand was underscored, especially on beam and floor. Anna had the all around performance of her life here, every routine was beautifully executed and strongly performed. Anna deserved the bronze or even the silver medal, and Zhang deserved maybe like 6th or 7th place?

One of my favorite gymnasts. Her swing on bars is beautiful. I wonder why that was her weak event, because her form was the best there. She missed alot of handstands and connections, but her conditioning was exceptional. She didnt straddle on any of those casts to handstands.
@saragrant97495 ай бұрын
She admitted in an interview that bars always intimidated her, and so she did only just what was required to get by. Just like some never get comfortable on beam, some don’t get comfortable with bars.
@jayld53965 ай бұрын
@@saragrant9749 she was able to learn that bar routine, she could have rearranged elements to get rid of deductions. She couldnt have been that intimidated considering how hard her routine was technically. I coached for 20years, i think i know more about gymnastics than someone replying to a response

Pavlova's tumbling on floor is wonderful but she messed up the smaller elements. Double cat leap, 1.5 split, and Triple turn all too underrotated to be given credit. Khorkina had the same problem though, she should have been off the podium altogether, and Pavlova taking the Silver instead.

The D-level dismount was required only for event finals. Back then during the AA, you could do a C-level dismount without any deductions. And Zhang had a start value worth 10 anyways so she could get away with that dismount in that particular phase of the competition.

The way that beam is before bars in this video is so triggering to me 😭. I cannot believe Yevgeny could get Carly to a 9.9 SV on bars and no one in all of Russia could get Anna a routine higher than 9.7?? She is fundamentally a much better bars worker than Patterson. Craziness!

As much as I like Pavlova, her bars were not pretty even with Zhang's. Although Pavlova swings very freely, she did not have very much content in her routine which is why her start value was only 9.700. It's a shame for her because that made a big difference in her overall score in the AA.
