@@rillo806 it may be honest but I wouldn't celebrate psychopaths for their being honest about having zero empathy and charming people to get what they want. Whether it's a CEO or Anna Sorokin. She literally checks every box on the list of signs someone is a psychopath. In fact, she is probably ecstatic that a world famous actress is portraying her in a famous series. People with ASPD (sociopaths, psychopaths) and NPD (narcissists) don’t care about morals like others though. They are smart enough to know right from wrong but simply don’t care because they view themselves as above everything and anyone. That’s just how their brains work. They will manipulate, hurt, overstep boundaries with other people but when they receive the same treatment they cry and throw a tantrum. Im not defending Anna in any way. What she did is wrong and I’m glad she’s in jail. But Rachel portraying herself as a victim is just insane. You talk about feels but Rachel actually benefited from vasts amounts of money for years on the count of Anna. She was not o my seduced, she was showered with Anna’s money. So yes she got charged fir the whole trip but she suggested it, she organized it and she kept ordering while at the hotel. She just expected Anna to pick up the bill and when she didn’t, she pressed charges, she reported her, she cried and she portrayed herself as a victim. When she was actually paid in full and the debt was cleared. How privileged do you have to be to assume someone else will pay for your trip fantasies and then blame them when they won’t pay for you ? Spending money you don’t have is your choice. Own it.

The thing I don't understand is this: Most hotels require A CREDIT CARD and AN I.D. in order to rent a room! They usually charge you a SECURITY DEPOSIT FEE (In case you break or steal something from the room! I've heard that if you steal a pillow, the hotel will charge you $80.00! I don't know if that is true though.) So, how was this chick able to stay at luxury hotels for free?
@totalchaos904
@totalchaos904 2 жыл бұрын
This is true, for your average chain hotel catering to normal middle class. Upper class service-based industry is an entirely different world. They absolutely cater to their customers and do everything to not inconvenience them. The hotel not getting a credit card on file at arrival is not unusual- it's an honor system of sorts. Asking for a credit card may potentially come off as accusatory that the guest will not or cannot afford to stay- a risk in offending the rich guest that the hotel wouldn't dare to take.

This is the world we live in, where someone can openly become an open and celebrated success by causing people harm. Maybe scamming people is the way to go as a career choice? I mean, she's worth $60 million currently. She lost the $300,000 or so that she made from the scam, then got sued for another $200,000 by the state after Netflix bought the rights to her story, but with all the media attention she still raked in tens of millions of dollars; money most honest people will never see. Starting to feel like being an honest person is for chumps. In a sane society she'd be chastised relentlessly, and left dirt poor.

How do you figure that she's worth $60 million?

@@myblacklab7 Because... She is? I literally never heard of this woman before watching this segment, so I researched her. That is how much she has made due to her fame, from all sources since after her punishment. Maybe do your due diligence before you comment, sir.

@@abrahamthebewildered1448 I Googled this and was amused to note that many sources do say she is worth $60 million. Those sources seem to base this number on what Anna said she was worth when she was scamming people, and nothing else. Other sources say her net worth is more like $10,000. She received a few hundred thousand from Netflix, most of which went to restitution. How on earth would she go from around-zero to $60 million so quickly? I guess Anna is (maybe accidentally) still convincing people that she is extremely wealthy, when she's not.
@abrahamthebewildered1448
@abrahamthebewildered1448 2 жыл бұрын
@@myblacklab7 You're talking about her financial state prior to the execution of her punishment. She was worth a few hundred thousand, then she lost pretty much all of it to fines and restitutions, but then she received like a dozen or more contracts and all kinds of endoresments, plus I think she wrote a well-selling book, which brings us to today, where she's wealthier than ever before. Not going to look it all up again, frankly I don't care about her enough at this point, but the first time around I definitely went into a detailed search. Whether she's worth $60 million, I suppose I'd be willing to agree that MAYBE she's not that wealthy, but given what I read, she's definitely at least a multimillionaire, and my original comment stands. This is the real issue to begin with. Yeah, she was left practically destitute by the legal system, but then society rewarded her with more wealth than ever before.
@myblacklab7
@myblacklab7 2 жыл бұрын
@@abrahamthebewildered1448 I can see your point, but I think the reason people are so intrigued by her is that she infiltrated the corrupt and decadent world of the ultra-privileged. It doesn't seem like she ripped anyone normal off, other than Rachel Williams, who has published a book about it, and is doing just fine. If Anna had defrauded ordinary middle-class folks, she wouldn't have many fans, and most everyone would hate her, but instead she took advantage of the privileges and snobbery of wealthy folks, and it's hard to feel sorry for the yacht owners, Wall Street execs, and private jet company CEO's who got fooled. I also think Anna has some mental illness issues that fueled all of this - she spent money even when doing so would make her homeless, and she ended up being her own worst enemy. I agree that scamming people is bad, but within a class of people who flippantly exploit the poor for profit, and who engage in conspicuous consumption, her sins are negligible in comparison.

By most standards, she is neither stunning, nor brilliant, but a fake, delusional self-entitled heiress of an invented billionaire. Yet, people of great wealth are whining they have been scammed. The overwhelming majority of these persons do not give a dime to a hungry person, no matter if he/she is a deprived being or in dire time of his/her life. Maybe it's just a matter of intelligence of their narcissistic part too. Why bother?
