This is J William Hott's sister, from his account. J was my little brother and best friend, and we cherished this song together after his best friend past away. Now, I cherish this song alone as we lost J to suicide last year. Annabelle will always evoke strong emotion within me. Hell on Wheels brought me here. I am a guy and very proud to admit that I'm a bit of a softy for "the fair haired maiden of the west." When her character met her unfortunate demise I was distraught, teary eyed (I didn't cry, there is a difference!) and VERY angry - grrrrr - that she met her end so prematurely. Darn you producers for inducing and encouraging my sensitive side. I'd have loved to have seen where the classy but tough lady and Bohanon love story would've ended up.

Bass Mason TIMSHEL!! I have both this song and Timshel (As brothers we will stand) on my writing playlist!! I played that song recently for a friend when she gave birth to her son. She and her boyfriend don't have any family on this side of the country, and they live downstairs from my husband and I (whose family is also mostly out east), so we've become our own little family, and that song really nailed our dynamic. I just heard this song last night while watching an episode of Hell on Wheels from Season 2. I was immediately drawn to it...I replayed it over and over...incredible singing, lyrics and that steel guitar...SIGH...I can never get enough of that mystical sound. This is a really poignant song for me, I listened to this around the time my wife had a miscarriage. It took on some special meaning for me and expressed the loss far better than I ever could. First time I've come back to listen to this in years. I now have a beautiful son.

For reference, I am a die hard death and Black metal listener. Every single day for about 13 years now. But this is simply a beautiful composition. Hell on Wheels brought me here. My family is from southern Kentucky, so it fulfills that folk/bluegrass esque wiring I have embedded deep somewhere in my DNA. None the less, a beautiful song that puts me visually in the American Frontier. And honestly there is some carry over between this and some black metal like Agalloch or Panopticon that I listen to on the regular.. never ending expansion of musical passion guys, dont close your minds!

So I watched Hell on Wheels when it came out. Song didn't hit me too hard then, just an emotional moment, ya know? It was good, just not like... It wasn't "moving to tears" good, not then (even though I'd lost loved ones, friends, even a lover). I was sat on the sofa, with my best friends, laughing, joking, as we do. Then *that* scene happened. We sombered up, as you do. Now, these many years later, on a rewatch... I've lost my partner to cancer last year, and it's like the very air has been ripped from my lungs. Oh, I'd experienced loss before... not like this. Nothing like this. It's like a piece of my very soul has been ripped out and I can't replace it. And I feel that in this song. "I have lost my faith in everything" sums it up 100%.

I heard Seasn3 starts around Aug 8. I'm catchin' up on netflix. Holy shit, this is a really good show. Like Tombstone on tracks with a little Django thrown in.
