YES! I accidentally overdressed on a first date recently. He cat-fished me slightly and didn't look as his photos suggested. In anticipation of the man I had expected to meet, I dressed to the 10s (my skirt was a little tight, but overall I looked really elegant), and he wasn't able to have a conversation with me for half the date as he was gobsmacked that I looked so much better than he expected. The silence was extremely awkward 🙄

My first date with my husband of 33 years I was so broke I bought a very basic dress from Oxfam. It was red. He still remembers my "sexy red dress". Yet it showed no cleavage and was knee length. My tip would be if you are broke buy something from a Charity shop with a good label and well made. If necessary get your local tailor to alter it to fit. This costs around £10.

That's so true - what you wear to impress your girlfriends won't impress a man. Sometimes I like to wear fashionable, but slightly masculine clothes such as elegant pants to look professional. My partner hates them and calls them 'clown's pants' 😅 Most men don't follow the latest fashion trends, so unfortunately they don't understand some of our choices, it's always better to choose something classic.

I think there's some danger in what Anna suggests. I truly believe that the most important thing is to find who you truly are and wear/be that unapologetically. Same with Coach bags. Some girls can't even imagine paying that much for a bag. I think the more we embrace who we're, the better chances we have to attract a person we can align with instead of pretending to be someone you're not..

When I was 14, my dad picked me up from figure skating. He had come in to watch a bit at the end. When we were driving home I told him of a move I did and he said he saw it, and I asked how he knew it was me from the other end of the rink and he replied "All I had to look for was your blue eye shadow". One comment, just one gently spoken comment was all it took to clue me in and I never wore blue eye shadow again and toned it down a lot by switching to subtle, soft browns and beiges. Dad was class.

Somethings ( for the most part ) I completely agree with you! My husband took me on a casual first date to Santa Barbara CA, I wore a Michael Kors bag that even he gave me a compliment on . Maybe bc the logo wasn’t loud , the color was tan, and the cut of the purse is actually really perfectly constructed. So many people always compliment me on it . Later in time after few dates he said “ I love that you aren’t a monogram billboard “ meaning he couldn’t stand women who bought the LV, Coach, MK, Gucci etc purses or clothes that simply had no style rather a logo slapped onto a garment . It’s not the first or the last time a man would express that to me. I choose my bags like art work . Second I love buying quality Jewelry. And men - all men do notice …my husband is a man of success and respect . He is kind and at times we both go out on a wild date , however he loves it when I look “ beautiful & timeless “ - that’s how he compliments me . So, yes elegance with men that are more traditional is something they value .

No way… well, I suppose by wearing jeans that man instantly showed you that he’s not the man of your dreams. This is truly disappointing. I think that men should also be dressed elegantly for the first date. And I also think that this is polite to inform your date beforehand where are you going, so that she could dress properly. I’ve been to some very awkward dates when men didn’t bother to tell me the place and I ended up dressed elegantly where it was not truly appropriate. For example, at the fresh fish restaurant that was not an elegant place at all. It was that kind of very simple places where the dishes are tasty but the tables are nasty… I understand that it was a good place to eat, I just wish I knew where we were heading before I dressed for the date. I was very uncomfortable sitting there in my silk dress and thinking about not-so-clean tables, fish scales everywhere and many kinds of sauces that were very easy to splutter all over.

There have been studies that see how comfortable women really are when they’re showing skin. Scientists asked women and men, each alone in a room, to do a math test while wearing a bathing suit instead of clothes, and the women generally did a lot worse on the tests, were very nervous, and were constantly body checking. Guys were generally okay in their bathing suits. I personally dress conservatively and get a lot of comfort from knowing that I can still show off my shape without showing much skin.

The thing is, will your man even notice your bag and its branding? Some men won't notice if you're carrying a bag at all. Others have no clue about the difference between bag brands. Some men do know ... they will know you have a plastic bag with branding that screams "DISCOUNT STORE!!!" These men are usually clued into which brands are super expensive and prefer women who carry them. They will give you bonus points if your bag says CC and subtract for MK. I personally think a focus on brands is a sign of shallowness. My bags are all independent brands, no logo (except for two 1980s vintage Coach bags back when they did not brand them and they lasted forever). I am not interested in the type of man who can accurately guess the price I paid for my wardrobe, and whether it's trendy or not :-)

I’m a vertically gifted 6ft 7in and one recurring thing I’ve noticed is that the ladies want to seem tall to be with me. The first date pattern I’ve noticed is that they wear high heels, stilettos or wedges etc. After they get to know me I tell them that I appreciate their efforts to be taller but I’m happy if they wear short heels too. I do love seeing a woman in tall stilettos and a nice dress, but it depends on the occasion.

Personally, I only wear leather shorts, pants or skirts, with a silk or chiffon or linen blouse. I keep my leather dresses for evening wear. For a first date when they suggest dinner, I propose coffee or a lunch date, much better. I wear minimal makeup or natural make up, especially during a daytime date. I cut the date after 2 hours. So far, it has worked for me. Ladies, be yourself and do what makes you happy. Anna Bey, thank you again, for such video. Merci à vous. ☺️

I’d love to see a video about X number of things an elegant lady would never do on a dinner date. Like drinking on the first date? (Obviously drinking to excess wouldn’t be advisable) But are there drinks that would be considered elegant and feminine while also showing your fine tastes? Same thing with what kind of meal a high caliber woman would order if your going on a dinner or lunch date. I always hear about ‘foods that you shouldn’t eat on a date’ and I’d love to hear Anna’s advice about that!

At school, I was always the "smart girl", and you know, how Society has these labels, fashion is not for "smart girls". Thankfully I grew up from that, and learned a lot about fashion. The most important lesson I learned was: with fashion you send a wordless, very powerful message. I absolutely loved your tips because they were based on the message are trying to send: we are not cheap, we are worthy, we are feminine and beautiful but so, so much more than that. So there is my advice to young girls: when you dress to a date, ask yourself what kind of message you want to send

After years of experience, I totally agree with everything Anna said here! I’ve had so many bad experiences because I show up on the first date in my fashionista outfit, too sexy, etc, but it also turns out those were the wrong guys for me anyway. Thankfully my current bf really loves the way I dress. I’ve calmed down a lot too, thanks to maturity and Anna Bey’s advice. My bf and I were friends first so I didn’t worry so much about what I was wearing when I was spending time with him in the beginning (I think fashionistas always put SOME thought to their daily outfits). I think everything worked out the way it was supposed to, but I’ve definitely lived and learned 🤣🤣🤣

I disagree with Anna about the coach bags. I'm someone who likes quality products and I've seen that coach delivers that consistently. They have great quality for a much cheaper price point. The craftsmanship and materials are great too. The brand is just not trendy rn. I agree with her about Michael Kors and guess. Michael kors just copies other designers and most pieces are monogrammed or tacky. Guess.... Well guess makes bad quality products. They hardly use premium materials and the products are not even close to luxury
