We are going to master the most challenging part of the Russian grammar - cases in Russian. This is the first part of the video about the accusative case in Russian. We are discussing the usage of the accusative case for direct object in Russian.

@@paulbarreda6576 Hello Paul, sorry, I missed your comment. 'Мужчина' ends in 'a', so it has to take the ending 'у'. Not to get into the theory of grammar, just think of the 'man' as a feminine noun, same as 'папа', 'дедушка', дядя'.

Matthew, treat these words as you would treat feminine, meaning, attach -у or -ю to them in the accusative: я люблю папу, дядю, etc.

Alex, well done! The only thing: do not omit pronouns. Meaning, you have to say 'Кого ВЫ знаете?', 'Кого ТЫ знаешь?', 'Что ТЫ съел?', even though the form of the verb shows who did the action. And in the last sentence it should be 'Я знаю мальчикА и девочкУ'. 'Девушка" is an adult girl, 'девочка' is a child.

Is it a big drama for my potential Russian audience if I forget to decline a noun in the accusative case? For example, if I say 'Я знаю Путин' instead of 'Я знаю Путина' (I wish), is it a big deal for Russian listeners? How do you guys get to remember all these cases and declensions in a normal daily conversation?

Udar Pavarota, it’s not about it being a drama but rather simply ‘correct or incorrect’. Not attaching an ending is incorrect., like it would be incorrect to say ‘He read a book’. What’s more, very often it will create problems in understanding. In such a short sentence as you’ve mentioned, people will most likely figure out what you wanted to say. However, if a sentence has a few more adjectives/nouns and you do not attach proper endings, it will just make no sense. Native Russian speakers learn the meanings and endings of the caces naturally. We do not learn cases at school the way foreigners do, just like English-speakers do not learn what present simple, or past perfect is. Native speakers just know how to say things correctly. In Russian schools you learn spelling, punctuation rules, etc, but not when to use the accusative case and which endings to attach.

Good day my favorite teacher Anna, I follow your videos regularly, I found them very useful. Yet, I have a suggestion or rather a request to make to you. Please Anna, try to speak in Russian only or, at least, mostly. This helps us to improve our listening and vocabulary in Russian. I have a list of KZbin teachers who speak only in Russian, or they do not use English but rarely. I can mention teachers like: Anastasia Semina, Ira, Tatiana Klimova, Stanislav Chernyshov, Maria Petrova, Olga Geral, Max, another Anna, etc. This monolingual method, to teach Russian through Russian itself, helps the learner to improve his knowledge about the language. The bilingual method may help the begginers, but not the intermediate nor the advanced students, for this reason, I suggest that you make videos only, or at least mostly, in Russian.

Periscoper, in feminine it doesn't matter if it's animate or inanimate, we change everything. This division applies only to masculine. So you will say "Я пил сок и водУ". Great job otherwise!
