Hi everyone welcome back to my channel!
This summer I have a brand new video series for you! Over the next 7 videos I will be discussing what semantics is, why it is important for language and reading development, and how to implement simple activities in your classroom to support its development.
During my 23 years as a classroom teacher, I tried many different strategies for addressing semantics in my classroom. There are many, many ways to do this; some strategies might take you a few minutes, and others could take up the duration of an entire lesson. I have collected my seven favorite strategies for quickly addressing semantics and will share them with you in this video series.
I want to first note that I rarely taught semantics in isolation; it was always part of a larger study of important vocabulary words. I also found over the years that my favorite time to do a semantics activity was before reading a text when I was activating and building background knowledge. I would first preview the text, pick out a few new or interesting vocabulary words, and build my semantics activities around those words.
Stay tuned to the end of the video where I will share my list of my seven favorite strategies with you on teaching semantics.
If you're looking for a comprehensive, explicit and systematic literacy curriculum that addresses not just Language Structures, but all strands of Scarborough's Reading Rope, I urge you to check out Structured Literacy with E.A.S.E for grades K-4.

When you are finished with this series, will you also do a video series on the other subcategories of linguistics?
