The e-wrap cast-on is very common in machine knitting. This video shows how to do it using the carriage, rather than doing it by hand. If you would like to support my channel to help me create more videos: www.buymeacoff...

Thank you! I'm a leftie who fumbles with traditional e-wrap, and I had never seen this method before.
@AnnaHaferman Жыл бұрын
Great! I am extremely right-handed but if you want to e-wrap from the left, start with your carriage on the left and begin with the right-most needle and wrap clockwise. (Right-handed is counter clockwise.) You can also do this automatic e-wrap starting with the carriage on the left and pulling out the right-most needle and working left. The carriage will wrap the stitches clockwise.

The e-wrap is a closed cast on that is stretchy. When you use the comb you get an open cast on which will ravel.

You will need to look in your manual at the diagram of how to thread it. If you don’t have a manual you can download one for free. The yarn needs to be on a cone or would into cakes or else it won’t feed correctly.

Hey Anna I was sooooooo glad to see you on KZbin with your machine. My mother left me her Knit King with all the goodies and she even left me her "Bulky" she had to use thick yarns. I had no clue how to cast on with it, but I need to know what kind of table do you mount them on so they stay stable? I know I will need to watch your videos so I can get started using it. I was going to sell them but didn't even know where to start with that. She even has the 1000.00 dollar computer to go with the reg one. Thank you for your video here. It was very helpful

You say in the video around 3:30, "make sure everything has knit off, which it has", I think mine is not knitting off. Do you have any suggestions for how to tell if this is happening and what to do if it isn't?
@AnnaHaferman3 жыл бұрын
The machine should be making a new stitch on each needle each row. If it’s not doing that then possibly you need a new sponge bar or some of the needles are not working correctly in which case they would need to be replaced. Have you been able to get your machine to knit if you do a cast-on with the cast-on comb!

If the yarn is splitting while I'm doing this what is the issue? It doesn't split when I'm knitting later on.
@AnnaHaferman Жыл бұрын
I don't know why it would be splitting doing the e-wrap and not on plain knitting. Is it doing that with every yarn you try? If no, then it's an issue with the yarn you are using.

My newly acquired kh930 is not doing what yours does. At the first pass, something is tripping the cam lever from N to the H position. Any suggestions? I cannot seem to cast on in any method so far.
@AnnaHaferman2 жыл бұрын
First- have you checked your sponge bar to make sure it's good? This is really important. Most of the time old machines have disintegrated sponge bars which makes the machine almost impossible to use. Second, take the carriage off the bed and turn it over. Press each button or lever, you should see something move on the bottom of the carriage. If anything is not moving or sluggish you will need to lubricate the carriage.
@sheriogaga2 жыл бұрын
@@AnnaHaferman Thank you for replying!!! I cannot get the bar out, even pushing from the other end. So I'm imagining that the sponge is springy - but I will try harder. Also, is this a thing: my machine came without a power cord. (It's on order this morning after sleeping on tge puzzle.) Are the magnets relying on electrical current to do something important?
@AnnaHaferman2 жыл бұрын
@@sheriogaga When you push the needles out, do they stay in place or are they loose? If they stay in place, it's probably okay for now. Where did you get the machine? If it's a machine that has been stored for many years, it almost certainly needs a new sponge bar. The machine should work for stockinette without power. The only thing you need power for is for patterning. Also, which lever are you referring to?
@sheriogaga2 жыл бұрын
@@AnnaHaferman playing with it some more, I find that if I hold the E-positioned needle tip down slightly, whatever the needle butt is hitting can be cleared of its hangup. Could a sponge bar cause the needles to be too high? I got the machine from my aunt. She had not used it in probably 25 years. But possibly, before supposed way she could put a new SpongeBob in there maybe. And got the wrong size? I will try again to remove the sponge bar!
@AnnaHaferman2 жыл бұрын
It's the sponge bar. Take something like a wooden chopstick and push from one end. If it doesn't move, tap the end of the chopstick with a hammer to try to loosen it. Once it pokes out the other side enough, grab it with some pliers and pull. Order a new one and don't try to use the machine until you change it out.

I have a very similar Brother machine. Mines KH836. I bought it years ago but couldn't get on with it so it got stored in our loft, until lockdown. Despite following your instructions, precisely, every time I try to cast on, after completing a manual e-wrap (mine won't do it for me) the very first movement of the carriage from right to left the yarn ALWAYS gets caught on one or other of the gate pegs before it reaches the knitting and a large loop is dragged out. I've tried adjusting tension up and down, using the comb, not using the comb, pulling the comb down by hand, tensioning the yarn by hand above the carriage but always get the same snag. If I ignore the snagged loop it will continue to knit the 2nd row onwards without issue. Does anyone have any advice about what I am doing wrong? EDIT: Its been in the loft for over 30 years and as you might expect, the sponge bar foam has perished. I've ordered a replacement.
@AnnaHaferman4 жыл бұрын
It's probably the sponge bar, but also check that all of your levers are free-moving by pressing them one at a time and looking under the carriage to make sure there is a flipper moving that corresponds with each button. Check the brushes and wheels to get the lint out from underneath. Make sure none of your gatepegs are bent; if they are, gently bend them back into place.

The cast-on I am showing is a closed cast-on, meaning there is a finished edge at the bottom of the knitting. I'm not sure how you have your carriage set, but if you have it set to slip like I showed in the video, it will make a loop on each needle, but these are live stitches, meaning that the knitting will have stitches that will run. Try it both ways and you will see the difference.
