So, I am not a fan of Jojo Siwa, but I do just want to throw out a reminder that it can take people years--sometimes decades--to come to terms with the fact they were victims of abuse and/or grooming. And Jojo has to live out this stuff in front of an audience. So while I don't support her and the things she says and does, just keep that in mind when you listen to her talk about the Ballingers, James Charles, and Abby Lee Miller. She's not really in a place where she can condemn these people because 1) they furthered her career and 2) it would mean having to examine her own experiences with them which she perceived as positive. She's in the wrong and in denial, but she's also likely not ready to confront the reality of her upbringing.

Clara Bow was so in denial about her abusive upbringing (physical, incestuous, and sexual) that after years of working with a therapist she had a breakdown and reopened contact with her father and moved back in with him. She became a reclusive, suicidal addict. But all the magazines talked about how pretty, talented, and sexy she was, and criticized her for being too mentally, emotionally, and physically unwell to keep working and entertaining the masses. It's such a common fame cycle, and I worry the same or something similar will become of Jojo...and many other current/former child stars!

@gymnasticsgirlie06477 ай бұрын
@@shiorisakurag While I'm not denying your friend's lived reality, I hope you are not insinuating that homeschooled kids are inherently unsocialized. The reality is that mainstream school actively discourages socialization (ever heard "hands on your lips, fingers on your hips"?) and creates a very unnatural social environment (e.g sectioning kids off into hyperspecific age groups). Furthermore, many schools actively promote bully behavior and do not protect victims. There is definitely a way to do homeschooling wrong, but for many it actually improves socialization opportunities because kids are allowed to manage their own time and have more physical hours of the day to spend interacting with others. Don't knock homeschooling because of your friend's experience.

@@gymnasticsgirlie0647 Ive never heard of hands on your liops, finger on your lips. What is that even supposed to mean?! Homeschooling, when done well, is great for kids. Same with public education. I've seen the products of good and bad versions of both. I've mainly seen what happens when kids have very religious homeschooling experiences and it is NOT good. There were a few kids I met in college that were homeschooled that were so smart, self-motivated, and super friendly. Unfortunately, there seem to be a lot more of ther former than the latter
@gymnasticsgirlie06476 ай бұрын
@@UnicornsPoopRainbows Oops, I accidentally switched it around. It is "finger on your lip, hand on your hip". It basically is a stance that kids are supposed to take where they put a finger on their lip as if to say "shhh" and the other hand on their hip. It is a quick and easy way to get kids to quiet down, or in other words, stop socializing with each other.
@lethfuil6 ай бұрын
@@gymnasticsgirlie0647 As someone already said, regular schools AND homeschooling can be great, IF done right. But homeschooling has just way more ways to do it terribly wrong. Dumb teachers and crappy bullies can do quite the damage, though most make it even through that rather fine and even more don't really experience that a lot at all. Now, with homeschooling, the amount of kids that just get taught religious nonsense is already alarming and then there's also a lot that face simply just abuse, a lot of it sexual too, neglect, exploitation, radicalisation, control, control, control. Objectively homeschooling is much more dangerous to kids than a regular school. From "just" a complete lack in education to terrible harm. That doesn't make regular schools perfect by any means! It just still makes it the much better option for most. That's also why a lot of developed countries make it very, very, hard, or straight up impossible, to homeschool kids. You either can't, or you have to get licences and regular controls. I think the way to go would be an easy access to distant learning, aka zoom classes with just a few in person days a month. That way the child isn't easily subjected to bullying, but still also isn't alone in the hands of possibly insane parents.

If she couldn't condone "hoe-hoe siwa" and that was on the adults around her, then she also couldn't condone being a forever toddler for the sake of being a "positive role-model" and that was ALSO on the adults around her. In the book, which I might write an essay on myself to use as a retrospect, she recalls how she was really into softball and was taken out for her career. How she wasn't allowed to wash her hair for a week for a Rapunzel routine on dance moms and felt gross and overstimulated. How she was apparently singled out by Abbey Lee Miller when she was the only girl who noticed she had entered the room for supposedly being a good kid for, which, looking at how she was then treated by Abbey, absolutely fucked with the mixed messages she faced. And how she supposedly always knew she'd be a performer but pretty much every move she recounts was made by her mum. Like, it feels like propaganda that she was doing okay.

But it can be really cool to have some hobbies where you become friends with significatly older/younger people as well. I danced Lindy Hop with a bunch of ladies in their 60s and 70s for a while, that was fun. And my Dungeons and Dragons group spans from 16 to 39 in ages. i remember a while back i saw a video paige made where she basically said everyone thinks they wouldn’t make fun of someone for being autistic, but still make fun of people for having autistic traits like being picky, having sensory issues, special interests, etc. it really stuck with me because it made me think that a. it’s so easy to make fun of people for being disabled without realizing and b. if i were to feel bad about making fun of an autistic person for something, it wouldn’t have been any more okay for me to make fun of an allistic person for that. growing up, i was the kind of person who would make fun of normal things people did or liked, and that video truly made me step back and ask myself “is this really something i need to make someone feel judged for”, because it generally wouldn’t be. apparently paige’s takeaway was that people who get made fun of are often autistic, so if you see someone being made fun of, you should just assume they are autistic. the internet doesn’t need to hear me go into depth about this, but i have a confusing medical history which was made worse by several doctors misdiagnosing me with autism (and, while coming to terms with my lack of diagnosis several years later, had a phase of thinking i was autistic while watching videos from paige), so seeing her sit back and diagnose a person as autistic made my skin crawl. edit: effectively rewrote the whole thing because i wanted to talk more about my personal experience

Yeah and while it's likely not intention, the way she phrased it also makes it sound like it's okay to make fun of people being "cringe" if they're not autistic which is just shitty.

Paige honestly has had.. quite a few troubling takes. Part of it can come down to how she phrases thins (often alluding bullying only being wrong because that person may be autistic). But she armchair diagnoses far too often when even a professional cannot and would not diagnose someone based off of their digital footprint. That's not okay. Her claiming that pretty much every person who dancer is autistic was also icky to me. And this is coming from someone who is neurodivergent and did grow up as a dancer. I was very much ostracized for being "weird" compared to the other girls. Yeah, there are a ton of neurodivergent people in the arts, but it doesn't sit right with me to claim that pretty much every person that is in the arts is autistic. It feels very invasive (and also a little bit belittling? the way she talks about autism sometimes makes me feel like every trait we have is, in her mind, tied to autism rather than being a living breathing person who is also autistic)

We're forgetting that Jojo is a victim too. Yes she's an adult now, but acknowledging the ballingers and Shane's behaviour towards her would be forcing her to acknowledge her own trauma. She probably genuinely doesn't see it as wrong because it was normalised for her. Yes she's an adult now but she's only 21 and she's never had a normal childhood and this was normal for her. Jojo likely has trauma she hasn't acknowledged or realised herself.
@lethfuil6 ай бұрын
O agree that she didn't and likely doesn't see how not normal and often not ok things during her upbringing where. BUT (yeah, sorry) two points: 1.) A problematic upbringing doesn't excuse overall shitty behaviour from someone in any way. 2.) And that's something people often don't want to hear, but unusual upbringings that contain problematic stuff doesn't at all have to lead to trauma! Not everything that seems great is great for everyone, not everything that seems harmful is harmful to everyone. Like her being friends with groomers. It's not sure in what why they took advantage of her and since she also got her share (of fame) out of the whole thing, it might just have been a "friendship", where the business advantage for both sides was relevant. Adding to add: Child stars are often messed up, since they where used from childhood on and never had the opportunity to live a normal life. But this doesn't always have to mean that it was completely against their will, nature and personality. Hell, a lot of people are messed up by their childhood, but without being insanely rich. And they still enjoy their life. Pity is...nice and all, but don't overdo it.

It is sad and feels bad to judge someone because they had pretty much no choice but to become an asshole or worse. But...everyone can at some point see they could be bad person and maybe it is not right. And sadly most people choose to deflect that unpleasant voice in the head and NOT change or work on to become better person. I think that we all should be more understanding towards everyone. But in the same time, some people cannot be helped, some people are bad because they were shaped into bad person. They will be bad person. The "uhhh but this bandit could some day see that he is bad and goes to uhh church and be good" Nah, this doesnt happen, anyone thinking that, please get real. If you want to at least try to see if the person is able to change, I am fine with that. We should change world for better place or try at least. But if someone talks to such person for a 100th time and for a 100th time that person says "bro, I see nothing wrong with my character, stop trying to manipulate me/lying to me or something - just accept that. It feels bad, I know it from experience but some people are just not gonna listen because it would mean big trauma for them and also big work for them. THey just want to be in comfy zone and if someone tries to change that - they are enemy or hater, even if you are their best friend, that makes no difference, they will just think you lost your mind for some reason and thats even more reason to not trust in anything. Good advice for everyone, if you meet a person who is strangely defensive or reacts aggresively to even simple sign of disagreement - just run, dont even try to fix them or get into relationship, that is even worse because even love sometimes is not enough to make a person think about their life.

I agree!! And we all should be actively trying to learn to be better people, changing, and righting our wrongs! I grew up undiagnosed AuDHD in an abusive household. It led to toxic behavior in my teenage years, but I was still wrong for how I acted. It’s okay to not always be right, and admitting to wrongs is the first step towards growing up and becoming a better person imo. Being abused and autistic are reasons for my behavior, but they don’t excuse it. I often hear the “they don’t know any better” attitude towards autistic people, but maybe they would know better if people pointed their behavior out to them. It’s also really belittling and ableist in my opinion, assuming that autistic people can’t figure things out for themselves. It reinforces autistic stereotypes, and affirms the narrative that autistic people can’t or shouldn’t be held accountable for wrongdoing (which leads to repeated shitty behavior) I also think our culture has a problem with admitting to wrongs. Instead of saying “I’m sorry I did that, I’m trying really hard to change my behavior,” people deflect and blame other people or things to excuse their behavior. The other methods are minimizing and ignoring past behavior, which are guarantees that you won’t change or grow as a person I feel guilty and embarrassed for who I used to be, but running away from that reality does nothing but deny that I’m a flawed person who hasn’t always been right about everything

Because I don't have much memories of most of my childhood but I know what kind of memories got squashed (nothing criminal, just verbal abuse), I just don't want to remember details and pay more then I can handle. So, like, is it bad-bad or not good but can live with it-bad?

@irregularstuff5290 While people won't remember everything from their childhood, there's a difference between just forgetting as you get older & your brain repressing memories in order to protect you from a traumatic experience In Jojo's case, she's suppressed so much of her childhood that she doesn't remember almost anything from before she was 16 years old. That's what's not good about it. As far as being able to live with it or not, that's up to individual if they want to go see a therapist or not because you don't want to try to remember repressed memories without the aid of a professional you trust

@@claratalbot7613 ah thanks. I was just worried that memory suppression can lead to some serious results outside of usual "stress for unknown reasons and have no idea where this or that coping mechanism came from" because of phrasing. Seems like it's not something to worry about.

1:39:03 ok so hi I’m autistic! And I’ve spent a lot of time on autistiktok and following and listening to actually autistic creators, I can firmly say: none of us take Paige Layle seriously anymore. Paige has said some p outlandish stuff and most serious and genuine autistic content creators don’t support her bc she says some wild ass stuff that’s unprovable. There’s a good video by reberrabon_bon responding to Paige’s wild ass claim jojos autistic. Most autistic content creators disagree with Paige and want Paige to not spread assumptions and other false statements and information on her platform. That’s all!

It sucks bc I really like Paige’s content at one point, but their takes have gotten worse over time :/

She didn’t come up too often on my feeds. And what lost me was her talking about how she can “never get over how they just give people with ADHD meth…..”. AuDHD here and that just pissed me off beyond belief. So ignorant. Thankfully the comment section corrected her!
