We bought our house from Anne Baxter back in the 1970's while I was entering High-School in Pacific Palisades California. I was always a big fan of the Ten Commandments and had an early crush on this beautiful actress from Hollywood's Golden age. She had impeccable tastes with a sunken living-room and a 16 foot built in couch. Her avocado tree was over 40 feet tall with lots of fruit and good climbing!

Rick, that is so Awesome that your family bought her house. That’s wild. I live in Michigan City, Indiana where Anne was born. Anne Baxter may not have looked the part of an Egyptian queen, but she was an Egyptian queen in The Ten Commandments. She captured the spirit of the charactcter so well. Even though I've heard others describe her acting in The Ten Commandments as overly dramatic, I considered her acting passionate and full of genuine emotion. Anne put 100% of herself into whatever role she was playing, breathing life into each character, whether it was the conniving Eve Harrington, the heartbreaking Sophie Mc Donald or the seductive Nefertari. I believe this is what de Mille saw when he cast her.

Thank you for this filmographical review of the gorgeous, talented Anne Baxter! I wasn't aware of the roles she'd played in classic movies prior to The Ten Commandments. Seeing her every year on TV as Nefertiti was always a treat because, in spite of the melodramatic style of the film, she brought a sensuality to that role that you couldn't deny. Her beauty and teasing SEXuality were enthralling to the normal American male.

Ann Baxter was one of my all times favorites. I saw the Ten Commandments in the 1950's ..I now have it on Blu-ray ..it is said that the 4K version is even better. I had read the studio Paramount wanted Audrey Hepburn for the part, but Cecil B DeMille felt her figure was to thin for the role & I agree. .for Ann Baxter had a more voluptuous figure along, with her deep smoky voice that could melt any man ..was perfect for Queen Nefertari..As far as her feeling she did not look Egyptian well no one in the cast really looked like a ancient Egyptian ..it was a all white cast ..so to bring that up was mute.. I noticed her nipples the very 1st time I saw the film as a young teen; blame it on my raging hormones of a male LOL

At 2:41 the photograph is of Eleanor Parker..... Not Anne Baxter. Though that photo of Eleanor Parker is on the Anne Baxter Wikipedia page. (I'm a huge fan of Eleanor Parker). And I think Anne Baxter was a very good actress in most of her films. The one thing that is very noticeable in The Ten Commandments is not her movie acting, but her stage acting. When Nefretiri meets Moses and he says he is bound to a shepherd girl. Instead of facing him, her back is to him a minute later, and she faces the camera. Whether they didn't put in another camera for the scene or the director wanted her to look away from Moses. Or she chose to keep her face always towards the one camera. It gave the scene a staged look, not a natural movie scene. DeMille had a way of filming that way, so it may have been his style. The lines were well written and the movie a huge success. One of my favorite movies. But many scenes seemed staged and not natural.

The Ten Commandments is one of my favorite of the biblical epics of the 50's. In addition to the grandeur of the sets and thousands of extras, the cast was impeccable. As gorgeous as Baxter is, it was Ivonne de Carlo the one who I was smitten by. I watched a heavily damaged copy of the movie at the Cinematheque Archives in Havana when I was a teenager. I've seen old pre Castro magazines with advertisements for all those epics, but after 1959 none were ever shown in theaters or TV. Even more egregious was the abandonment and carelessness of which these magnificent films were treated. Fortunately for a few, the storing facilities were state of the art and, though second and third printing reels showed fading damage, The Ten Commandments damage consisted of scratches, missing sound and film portions, there were at least 3 reels that were in almost mint condition. It was also a direct strike from negative thus the colors were beautiful. Even with all the modern digital technology and such, nothing beats seeing a projection against a big white screen by the light resulting from the 2 carbon sticks. By the way, the actress on the 2:40 mark is Elinor Parker, not Baxter. Cheers!

Yes, like mentioned it above. Always like to see George Reeves in a film role.

Just loved her acting style, looks and that voice!!! I first saw AB in an old film titled "The Blue Gardenia. (1953) She co-stared with Raymond Burr, Richard Conte & Ann Sothern.

We're happy to know that you love Anne Baxter! What role of her appealed to you the most?
@rbielarski2 жыл бұрын
@@FactsVerse I think it was Eve Harrington in All About Eve. She was so believable as the poor pathetic star struck kid idolizing Bette Davis's character and then, pow! Her true colors & ambitions really came thru.

Anne was incredibly evil in the " Guest in the House" which makes this movie the most unforgettable for me.

She played a difficult role in Razors Edge. Yet still earned an Oscar.💃

Anne Baxter's performance in the butchered, 'The Magnificent Ambersons,' by Orson Welles, is a mere shadow of what it should have been, but even there, Anne was stunning. Her grace-notes, barely recognizable, give the role real gravity.

Her performance in THE RAZOR’S EDGE is by far the best in the film. Simply astoundingly good. Head and shoulder’s above the other actors - although Clifton Webb was magnificent as Elliot Templeton, and John Payne solid as the stolid husband, whereas Tyrone Power was pretty much awful. Tierney of course was hired for her stunning good looks.

Could you name any other actress that would have played Gene Tierny's role???? I personally thought she was perfect.!!

I was surprised to see how much anatomy exposure on the 1933 original movie King Kong with brilliant actress Fay Wray..especially the swim scenes.

I would offer All About Eve as the iconic movie for Anne Baxter. It's Davis' movie but Eve Harrington is far more memorable than De Mille's super ridiculous epic which, if shown, pops up on TCM and channels which want a "religious" epic to show on holidays.

I liked her in the Columbo episode, "Requiem of a Falling Star" 1973. Edith Head who was the costume designer on The Ten Commandments, and All About Eve, was also in that Columbo episode, playing herself.

It’s very smart that this was the second time Cecil B. made The Ten Commandments. Obviously the second version had a huge budget and became a classic. More proof that the Golden Age of Film took exceptional choices

Not that it bothers me in the least but, my take is that Katherine saw Ann as a goody-two-shoes -- both in front of the camera and in real life. And, for whatever psychological reason, THAT was what "rubbed her the wrong way" about Ann. Maybe she reminded Katherine of a girl back in her school days who dripped with saccharin and who also dripped with personality and with friends?
