Am on the final pages of the book. Had to purchase it in German as English version in UK not out til Oct. Firstly, as a born Austrian, it is one of the toughest reads - doesn’t matter when you were born and in my case it was in the 70s / the atrocities committed by my country will always be a part of any Austrian or German etc and we will forever bear the collective responsibility But there is something about this book that I struggle to put into words It’s as if the ghosts of the author’s ancestors are communicating through her / the words when you read them seep into one’s mind… there was one sentence almost at the end that jumps out that says ‘I am the daughter and granddaughter of survivors’ I have never been so touched by a book and I read a lot Something truly magnificent about Anne Berest and I am beyond grateful to have been given the opportunity to read her words.

Deeply moved by this superb book. One of the best written about that dreadful period.

Thank you M. Berest. This was a soul-fulfilling experience. I was there. These were MY ancestors and their stories. It was poetry, history, horrific, revealing, tantalizing, insightful, ... and impossible to put down. A superbly crafted work of art.

Would it be too inappropriate to ask for a picture of Ephraim, Emma, Noemi, and Jack? I just finished your book, and I loved it!

The author relinquishes that this book is based on true facts. The postcard is among the most acclaimed and beloved French novels of recent years. Luminous and gripping to very last page, it is an enthralling investigation into family secrets. When I notices the cover the female model looked like a person I don't like, but the book isn't about her it is about family secrets, I would rate this book a 10 1/2.

I believe the picture of the girl on the cover is of Noémie, the author's sister.
