I was there for the filming, at Toronto's Danforth Music Hall. I'm in the front row -- with the tanned dress coat. Well, this sure does bring back memories. The best part of doing this shoot was being able to meet Anne. She was a really nice lady -- she sat with everyone; signing autographs for just about everyone there. And oh yes, that really is a fun song!

Thank you for sharing your memories. I love this song, and video. How long did the shoot last, and how many times did she have to perform the song?

I know, I know, this isn’t Anne’s usual. But gosh I’m so happy she did this album and went this direction for a bit. It’s truly excellent.

Love this album as well. Though many of her older fans at the time were less than impressed, especially with her stylish look, and hair. She writes a bit about it in her memoir. I hope you got to see the documentary that was done on Anne that was released last year. Anne Murray: Full Circle.

I remember back when this was playing on a country station and sounded more like adult contemporary than country but still like this sound better than today's country that all sounds the same and he'll there voices all sound the same. But really miss the decade of 80's country and rock.

Each time when I see this wonderful video I also look at the male background singer and he reminds me of Simply Red!
@rhymeandreasoning Жыл бұрын
The singer I do believe is Canadian singer/ songwriter, Paul Janz. He was popular here in Canada in the 1980s. And he does resemble Mick Hucknall, the singer from Simply Red.

I got to know this song when Hazell Dean covered it in 1988 and I loved Hazell's version. Later on when I found out Anne's the original singer to the song I became a fan of her version as well - a bit different to the Hi-NRG disco version of Hazell's but the rockier sound was quite good as well! Thanks for the upload!

This shoulda been a big pop hit/anthem for her. They were sure trying to put some rock “edge” on her with this video. Her voice is superb for almost any kind of song, and she looks as pretty as ever (pretty Canadian gym teacher, anyhow). Even seems to move with a bit of appreciable groove, here. But the tempo might have been just a bit too much for her established fan base. It’s too bad because Anne Murray really had the pipes to sing almost anything well. Effortlessly natural, pure singer.

This was a really good song for AM and showed her versatility in a big way, but neither this song nor the first single (Now and Forever) were major hits on US or Canadian Pop 100 charts when they were released. Surprising, really, but the updated sound/look did not click with listeners. ‘Now and Forever’ stiffed at No. 93 on the Billboard Hot 100 and this song did not even chart on the Hot 100. Neither song did especially well on the main Canadian Pop 100 chart, either. But ‘Now and Forever’ did crack the US Adult Contemporary Top 30. Looking back I’m surprised these were not much more successful for Anne, because they were given the full MTV-style video treatment and the songs are both very good. I get the impression, though, that Anne’s attempt to crack the MTV market was perceived as a bit of a “square” older performer trying to be “hip.” They made a mistake by taking that attitude, in my opinion. She could easily have transitioned to the pop/rock sounds of the time, given her outstanding voice. If these songs had been big hits, it would have been cool to see her explore a newer sound even further as time went on. Few singers in the 80s or 90s had pipes as good as hers. But then again, a contemporary like Linda Ronstadt was by that same time singing old Nelson Riddle standards. She was getting older and way past the rock ingenue image, so she made a smart nostalgic choice. Eh, Anne had a massive, long career so she didn’t need to hit a home run with every release by that period.

This song did actually chart for Annie, however, they said she was more the rebecca of sunnybrook farm and trying to hard. It wasn't one of her biggest hits and it some what alienated her core country fans. It's funny, she released this song and album just before Hazell Dean did. Both did a great job and here is another little known fact, both Anne and the american release of Hazel were on Columbia records! I joked she and Hazel were lovers lol!
