Anne of Green Gables is a 1985 Canadian made-for-television drama film based on the 1908 novel of the same name by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery, and is the first in a series of four films. The film stars Megan Follows in the title role of Anne Shirley and was produced and directed by Kevin Sullivan for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. It was released theatrically in Iran, Israel, Europe, and Japan.

I love the comment you put. I lost my Aunt/Mom/Kindred spirit and it's so hard when you lose the one person who knows you better than you know yourself. I'm the Anne to her Diana... Trying to be positive and realize that we will always have "Green Gables"!... I read the whole series it's sooo good , funny, heartwarming and very sad at times. Like really sad! And Meghan Follows is so sweet and humble at least that's the vibe I received from her when I ran into her and a friend back in 1997/98 can't exactly remember. But I remember being awestruck and she was really shy but sweet. Lovely person.

This was the most perfectly cast program I've ever seen. Each character was just as I had imagined, especially Anne. I was so blessed to spend a week on Prince Edward Island in 2009 and see places I've seen in the movies. It's even more beautiful in person and I hope to return someday. Thank you for this video. It brought back such lovely memories of watching this with my mother.

My Father and I had the pleasure of meeting Megan and her family at the Gravenhurst Opera House in 2001. Her family was putting on a performance of Hay Fever. We had the opportunity to have a one-on-one with the family after the performance. I can definitely say that the whole family was gracious and kind. We had drove all the way from the United States to see them and they were grateful to us. My Father was captivated by Megan's performance in Anne of Green Gables and was determined to meet her. It was an amazing experience that my Father and I never forgot. Megan spoke with us for over 30 minutes and we enjoyed our time with her.

One of my favorite series of all time. Huge fan of the books and L. M. Montgomery's novels as well. In the early 90's, as a teenager, I had the privilege of running into Jonathan Crombie on a film set in Toronto. He was super sweet and humble, and took the time to give me and my friends his autograph. Was sad to hear when he passed away.

I first read the book series when I was a child in the 60s. The series made me so proud as a Canadian. The Canadian cast was great, I think Diana was played by an American actress. It was quite interesting to find out she was related to Katharine Hepburn. And Jonathan Crombie (RIP) was the son of the well-known Toronto mayor David Crombie.

Gazebo TV is a streaming service put out by Sullivan Production and it is impeccable. It has the entire Anne series plus Road to Avonlea, among other shows and series that he did. It is well worth it. Check it out and enjoy!!! I am currently in another one of my “nesting” stages and have taken to binge watching all of it. When I indulge in anything Avonlea I feel “home”.

I watched this going, “Oh, no! Matthew died!” “Oh, no! Marilla died to! “Oh,Mrs Lynde is 85!”. I realized I do not know these actors proper names. I was start struck. She was so humble. I was actually coming out of a Salvation Army Dept store and she was going in . Very meek and mild it was a special moment. My aunt passed away two years ago and that was our thing I was an Anne( with an "e" lol) and she was Diana. We were kindred spirits and I miss her so . I read the whole series and it's amazing, funny and sad . Absolutely love Lucy Maud Montgomery. Was actually writing in my journal just now and was looking up Diana's last name came to me before I seen it . ❤❤❤

I was a child back then in Iran. This was one of the only things Western that the Iranian broadcaster would show since women were all covered! It was such a breath of fresh air in the Islamic republic. The whole family would watch it. Colorful, beautiful and amazing stories.

This is my definitive cast... and will always be the benchmark. This miniseries with this cast is heaven to me... its such a safe place that we can always return to.. It's sacred to me and I stubbornly rejected Anne with an E for years... But I recently gave it a chance, and its fantastic in its own right. It doesn't replace this version, but it does carve out its own Avonlea that is worth the watch!

I loved these movies and the ppl and locations. It was wonderful. Loved the time it was set in and how ppl interacted at this time in history. It reminds me of heaven. Love all of l m Montgomery books. I have read them all at the library and have the dvd box set. Megan looks great as the rest of the cast and miss those that have passed on. Gilbert was so handsome and nice, just what u want in a bow. RIP we hope to visit the island one day.

I remember watching when it came on PBS in '85. I was 8. Had a little black and white tv on my bedroom floor. Thought it was the prettiest movie ever made. There will never be another Anne, Marilla or Matthew. Richard Farnsworth had the most beautiful blue eyes. I was so happy when he won his Oscar. I had no idea Jonathan Crombie passed away. How sad!! 😢
