The first part of the series was in coproduktion with german tv. So Mrs. Allen was played by a german actress, thats why I think these scenes where cut out in Canada/ USA. Here in Germany know the scenes. 🙂

That's funny! I grew up with the German Version of Anne of Green Gables and didn't even know that these were exclusive scenes just for "us". Now as I'm watching this video I have to say that I don't recognize these clips, and I know this movie by heart, so I can't just have forgotten them. I always watched the movies on DVD so they must've been cut there too. I'm glad I can experience them now for the first time!

I'm American and i DO remember these scenes in the vhs set we had. Maybe they weren't included in the broadcast but were in the home vhs

I think in the book, the minister’s has a larger role, which explains these scenes. My guess is that Kevin Sullivan wanted to keep the story focused.

@@melschevelleSometimes the presence of a certain character and their dynamic with the main character just doesn’t mesh with the rest of the film. It does suck but it happens often in postproduction.

These scenes were included for the german broadcast, as the actress is a big name there and it was a stipulation of the german broadcaster that she have more of a role.

My late wife dearly loved these movies. She watched them many times over. I even watched them once or twice..i liked them as well. What she says here at the end is true for me as well. I feel its wrong to enjoy stuff I didn't get around to doing with my wife when she'd ask like watch this or that and such and do it now. I know she can see this any time she wants now though and that helps.

Wow, what a lovely character. It’s a shame that all her scenes didn’t make it into the finished movie for us in the North American broadcast. I kind of understand why since having Anne have such a strong bond with Mrs. Allen might detract from the unfolding narrative around Anne and Marilla’s bond (though I think both can coexist). I would love to see a Sullivan release with the German broadcast cut since Mrs. Allen does seem very charming.

Have to say I'm not fond of their making Mrs. Allen out to be German. It wouldn't make sense to have someone Lutheran (as Germans mostly are) marrying a Presbyterian minister. The theologies are quite different. And it's assumed in Montgomery's book that Mrs. Allen is Canadian.

The full movies are definitely hard to find anywhere. Sometimes although rare, PBS in USA will carry them. In my local public library in western USA I can rent them on DVD. I don't know what the big deal is not having them available to watch.
