Also, what I have seen and learned. Is tourism is necessary for the economy. Because, the only other way for the circulation of dollars in a country is it's small businesses. These things feed into the wealth of the economy through taxes and customs. Customs are very expensive with the accumulating cost of items imported and exported. So, without taxes, customs, and tourism, the dollars don't run. Now with 🇯🇲 Jamaica, it is a small Island; with limited space and people. 👎 Not full of small owned businesses, neither is there the space, 💵 dollars, or people. For, such and in undertaking. 🇯🇲 Jamaica is and small Island, with a count of ruffly only 3000,000.00-three million.
@hainleysimpson15074 жыл бұрын
Small businesses can hold the economy together but the corrupt and greedy want to sell every fucking thing in the country while they leave us to die. This has been going on for decades, they don't care about then country. Farmers and business men ave been warning of a dependency in tourism since before the sixties. Jamaica doesn't need tourism. Small businesses can bolster the economy we used build our own tug boats, make our own buses, process our own metal and make tires then politics destroyed all that, the middle class left when michael manley wanted to institute a social democracy to help the poor who were only poor due to classism and racism

Patrice Campbell When it's YOUR business/YOUR baby, as those vendors know, you understand the importance of providing excellent customer service. @@jahmallajaima The coldest towns in *Manchester* and *Clarendon* are as follows *Colleyville, Christiana,* *Mandeville, Silent Hill, Alston, Aneon Town, Spauldings* are consistently cold, especially from *November* to *March,* with temperatures dipping at dusk to early mornings 🌄 Meanwhile in *Blue Mountains* there are *Clydesdale* and *Penlyne Castle* that are much colder than the above listed places with temps generally dips as low as 5 to 10 degrees Celsius, which is 40 degree Fahrenheit. This is because both of these towns are located over 5,000 feet above sea level, basically twice the height of Mandeville. Most people only associate *Jamaica* with sea level temperatures and ignores the obvious cold ⛰ mountain temps.

Is Clarendon in Manchester? Mi hear there are places like Mandeville that get cold. Cold enough to need a couple of blankets. Was considering moving to JA but mi frightened of da heat. It was bad enough then. Now I’m older worse. Not that I like cold can’t handle but heat. I remember hot it was even at night . Hard to sleep. So I was hoping to find a place that’s not so hot maybe more like cool. Read mandeville’s low gets to about 65. And I imagine da houses aren’t insulated. I live in Hawaii and it gets down to mid to lower 60’d and I have to wear two pajamas socks hat cause it’s too cold for me. And our house aren’t insulated. I think what makes it worse is it’s humid here( not as much as JA) but also damp. If it was drier here probably wouldn’t feel da cold as much .Do people where you are have hot water ? Cause in da places where there was running water we had to take cold showers. Which I didn’t like even though it was hot outside.

So it's very true that things take a year to do in Jamaica. I mean something that u thought wen u r leaving home would take 2 or 3 hours will take the whole day eg. the bank . Some things takes months like a TRN and a national ID can take a year literally. Mine as expired for abt 3 years and I hv no intention of getting another 1 take too damn long, so I used my passport until I got my driver's license. With customer service, that too is also true. 90 percent of personnel whose work involves communicating with or helping people on a regular are not trained in customer service. Hence the awful service received. Another thing is that these persons do not like their jobs, so they're not happy. It might also be that they are unhappy with their work environment which may also influence their behavior. But the main reason I believe (other than being untrained) is the fact that these persons are only in their position/jobs because they cannot find employment in the field they want it. Most of them are merely settling for just what they can find in order to pay the bills. And in such cases u encounter people with terrible attitude. Some of these persons even went to college for the post they are in, but that isn't really what they wanted to do, it was just what they could afford to persue in college. Eg. U may find a nurse (practical) who didn't want to be a nurse but a marketing manager or consultant but couldn't afford that education. Or u may find a bank teller or cashier who wanted to be a registered nurse but couldn't afford it. So sometimes its these things that r the underlying factors that result in poor customer service.

My thoughts: You're right: *I remember walking into the library to use the internet & the librarian told me I couldn't come in because I had on a sleeveless tank top. I also remember (also at same library) went to use the bathroom (after I went out & put on a jacket =) & had to bring my own toilet paper! They were charging for the daggone TP! Mind you they weren't the only place to do it b/c I had already started to carry my own TP. Honestly felt some kinda way about the t-shirt thing at first, but when I thought about it I couldn't even get mad. Just be prepared for these things. *You are really on point tho, rainboots are also a must- especially round country where we live. I brought my uncle rainboots & also left mine with family when I left. Will probably do the same again next time I go. *No name/JM brands are usually cheaper, that's one way we keep the prices down when shopping. Also, shopping for fruits & veggies from local farmers etc.. *The inexpensive hairstyles/nails in salons are also true- I remember my mom got her hair washed & styled for $30, her stylist in FL woulda charged $80 for the same wash & style. And, it was definitely as well done. *I love JM, tho. You just have to take the good with the bad. The beautiful with the ugly. Love this!*

With regards to dress code in Jamaica we hv a saying that says "when in Rome, u do as the Roman's do". You may be judged depending on what u wear, where u wear it, Its just the culture. Not everything is considered appropriate for some places. For example, base on the way children are brought up as per the culture, if u say go on a school compound in shorts or distressed jeans and see through top, even the children will ridicule u, not just the teachers. I hv seen this happen to a lady at a primary school, and a little grade 5 boy said to the teacher "Sir, a weh dat a goh?". She had to turn back of course because the attire is considered inappropriate. Nevertheless, the culture is evolving and things are changing so soon u may wear what u want where u want to, but its going to be a while for that to happen, because evolution takes a bit of time.

Customer service thing is hilarious..lol. People full a manners but they feel like you bothering them at work...lol. I remember going to triple century one night and after that bad service I vow to never go back. I get going to a restaurant n you have to wait to be seated but don’t put me at the bar then forget about me. When I finally got a table it was another 20 minutes before somebody introduce themselves as your server for the night. This was couple years back still but I walked out that night without placing an order and I haven’t been back since.

It’s not complaining it’s the truth food is very expensive in Jamaica .... Girl the vendors heard your accent $$$$$ more money for the vendors. They are going to be nice to you..... Agree with you about customer service and the time to process any transaction. .... True about the makeup palette........ Truth about the shipping to Jamaica.

Where did you wear shorts to, because I wear shorts since I was a little girl and don't have that same experience. Jamaicans wear see-thru clothes regularly but I do admit you can be judged, by your clothing and some business place has clothing guidelines still, mostly government businesses.

I remember first time being in JA food did seem expensive. Wondering though since it’s been so long if it’s comparable to cost of food. in Hawaii. Of course most of da food I buy is at da health food store. Course wages are better here then JA But not great especially on da Big Island. Know mango 🥭 got to be cheaper here. Usually one here is about 2.50-$3.00 each and many times not even good.

Those are not local products you pointed out. It's imported, thus you will pay more. Plus, did you notice that most grocery stores are not run by the locals. Jamaica is a great place....I love it; it is my second home. you must open your mind when you go to Jamaica and leave the North American attitudes in North America. In dress - should dress as you see the locals; again leave the westernized and North American attitudes in North America. Respect the culture.
@anneshaadams5 жыл бұрын
if the items are local they can still be high priced. I dont see a difference whether imported or not tbh. Also, the way SOME GROUPS of people dress in jamaica is not apart of the culture.
