I was the second writer on the show, WGAw "Creative Consultant", as well as one of the hosts but I was performing the musical "George M" in Vegas*, so I missed the heaviest tap number when the original shooting was stopped by the SAG strike that year, 1980, and I had started the George M Cohan sing/dance. I would have been on the other side of Sharon as she and Bob were in front and 2 sets of 3 tapped along behind them; we were considered the three best hoofers on the series. "Vegas musicals" are cut down, some songs gone, as much dialogue as possible and no intermission. Two shows a night, Six nights a week. Whew! When the strike was over I could not get out of the anniversary show so I got 4 hours of sleep a night, flew to Burbank via prepaid ticket, now Bob Hope, Airport, my wife drove me to the nearby Disney Studios where I shot until I had to take off my costume ( in the car, put on casual duds), my wife driving me back to the flyby, and took a small craft [not pleasing at all!] aircraft to cab to the theatre, if time, put on some makeup and start the first show of the evening. Did this for about 10 days; it is good I was in my 30s or I might not have survived. Mouseketeer Lonnie

I understand your sentiment. However, I have to disagree that Annette was to be pitied. She fought strongly against the disease, succumbing only as her physical and psychological systems began to break down. She had a husband who loved her dearly and took her for a ride in their van every day, attended her, made certain she ate and was clean, and was comfortable and comforted. I know the diseases is debilitating beyond anything I could imagine, but she was brave. And, she knew the comfort of the Lord. What is one of my personal heroes. Thanks for your comment. Why is Sherry so front and center? The most recognizable mice (mostly due to the Mickey Mouse Club mantra that is widely shown) from Season 3 were Darlene, Bobby, Tommy, Sharon, Doreen, Annette, Cheryl, Karen & Bobby. I think Lonnie was also part of the orignal cast but not is the most used MMC mantra. I could understand the Doreen story but Cheryl was right there. Why wouldn’t she be front and center? She was the prettiest girl (next to Annette) in the cast. It must have been the blonde hair and perfect smile. I haven’t read a behind the scenes book of the 1955 cast in a while and I bet someone has the real story of the reunion and the backstage gossip.

I was on the Red Team and 1 of the 9 who lasted the entire filming, out of 39 original "MICE" but fell doing a hand stand in rehearsal winding up with a 50 cent piece sized abrasion that could not be covered by make up. It was decided that I could not have the 'boo-boo' on camera for the entire season so I was cut from Roll Call and the ending song "Now it's time to say goodbye/ To all our company..." that Jimmie wrote for the end of the season. Like the composer of the "Music Man", the opening "We're The Mouseketeers" melody was slowed down and done as the ballad we closed the show with every day. L

A bit MANIC wouldn't you say! I was 33 in 1980 and some of the reunion participants were several years older. The video quality was very poor and not in sync with the sound and image. And poor Tim Considine was put in the position of having to "fight" to be a Mouseketeer.. I haven't followed up on any of the ensuing iterations. Cheryl was very popular, but not 1 of the 9 [total: 39 from a few days to 1 season] that lasted the entire filming; Dennis, like Cheryl, the only other Mouse for 2 years, him #1 & #2. Doreen had recently done her full frontal and 'rearal' nude mag shots and Disney would have none of that. Sherry [season 2, then fired, had only lisp of the "Mice"] somehow jammed herself into the place of Doreen and has spent the last 38 years finding ways to become a part of the 9. No, unfortunately Karen is not alive. Sooooo very sadly, I read that she had passed away, possibly a yr ago( not sure exactly when or what she died of. Article didn’t mention the cause.) . We can Google it to get more info but so very sad that she is gone for she was such a little sweetheart!
I noticed there were two Rooneys, Micky Jr and other. Were they Mickey Rooney's kids???

Yes. You notice that one of them was the spitting image of Mickey Rooney, Sr. (ne Joe Yule, Jr., lest you are interested).

Hard to believe Bobby went on to an adult career, on "The Lawence Welk Show". He married Myron Floren's daughter. Floren was Welk's right hand man, who played the accordion.

Both Rooney boys were sons of Mickey Rooney and fired early on; they got into a paint area and repainted finished flats or furniture. Mouseka-Ciao!
