she makes the sorts of mistakes that one might expect from a musician who didn't set out to nail every note as per the score, but 'what the hell is this music meant to say' ... and, 'oh', 'that note might also have done just fine...' 35.55 amazing recovery

What a heavenly music! I had purchased a CD of this in the year 2000 (played by another musician whose name I forgot) and whenever I am at home on leave from far away city I used to listen to this for hours together which prompted my wife and children to call me a musically mad man!

Max, I would suspect that there are relatively few musicians the world over, who bowed their head in honour of the art that defined them, whilst they themselves gave definition to it. Annie Fischer was such a musician. Equally so, Maria Yudina. Thank you for this addition to your channel, and to my education. It is everything!

What a gem. Thank you for uploading! Love hearing this concerto by great pianists. Although my personal preference for Chopin is Yundi Li, (to my absolute delight found out couple days back will release recording of both concertos later this month, including first recording of PC2!) this, along with Argerich’s is beautiful too.

Shocking confession but I only tend to listen to movements two and three of both Chopin concertos! And how magnificently the great Annie Fischer plays these. The folk-tune-like passage at 33 minutes is played to the manner born as Annie does unforgettably with the intense quiet passage in Kodaly's Marossék Dances. Pianist Piers Lane: “Then, she invited me to my first Wagner opera. I went along to the opera house in Budapest and thought I’d be in the stalls, and they said something in Hungarian. I ended up being in the second-best box in the house which was her box. It was next to the royal one which was only used by Communist party heads in those days. And she later joined me with her sister. We went to a restaurant where all the waiters lined up and bowed to her. And, you know, that was heavy stuff for an eighteen-year-old from Brisbane.”

argerich is probably to fischer what bruniatishvilli is to argerich -- the blue-footed(birds) get bigger, but the technique's is incrementally note-perfect. The musicianship is all on par with any ashkenazy, cortot, or richter

She always played very melodic and romantic, even such a baroque piece like Händel's Chaconne in G major. I have always loved this style. Maestro Vasary says that Annie Fischer was the pianist, who "spoke the language" of the great classic composers. I think her best rendition was Schumann's concerto in A minor. Perhaps you should try to listen to it.
