I first saw Annie Hall in 1977. It was the last movie I saw with my first long-term girlfriend...or “relationship” as they were called. We’d both been “in love” and had had some truly great moments but at that point we were drifting apart...drifting towards a breakup...and we both knew it but it hadn’t been said out loud. I was feeling very sad and wondering if I was just letting a once-in-a-lifetime great love just slip away. After watching Annie Hall, laughing with it and letting the basic message sink in I knew everything would be alright for both of us and that come what may we would ultimately end up leaving each other better than we’d found each other. It’s a sentiment I’d never share with my wife of 36 years. I watch this movie alone at least once a year and it always takes me back to a very special moment when I really finally “grew up”. Never “heavy”...AH has always been profound.

I first saw this with a friend in 1980 and have loved it ever since. I think I’ve seen it at least 10 time or more since then. This review makes me want to see it again.

All about Eve over Sunset Boulevard The Apartment over Psycho (which wasn’t even nominated) Annie Hall over Star Wars Ehhh…what can you say? Sometimes two or more real keepers are made in one year. I’m especially glad that Annie won the Oscar though…I think the fact that it did has helped it secure it’s legacy.

1:25 I would argue that Louis CK matches up to that in Louie

Diane Keaton was so cute with the suit she wore in this film. I normally could care less about fashion or clothes but she really looked adorable in that suit outfit. Plus she had a sweet personality that made her even more attractive. A great funny film and love story!

My only problem with this movie is that it beat a certain other nominee of 1977 that became a modern mythology. But having been of the appropriate age to have Star Wars permanently seared into my mind, my opinion might be a little...skewed. Lol.

You heterosexuals and all your silly romantic comedies. You don't even know how much freedom you have to explore all kinds of interactions and relationships.
