So this video has been requested a bunch of times since a lot of you are wanting to move to korea/ come and visit and are wondering about the experiences you might have as a foreigner in Korea. Huge disclaimer though: I've had an overwhelmingly good experience here and these stories are all isolated incidences that I laugh about now and tell my friends about.

It’s so frustrating that some men don’t understand NO. It’s so infuriating that as women we have to tell them we have boyfriends, even when we don’t, just so they can get the picture. And even then some are too stupid to get it. Why is “No” not enough.

This! I'm a naturally polite and easygoing person. I've never had serious conflict with anyone. I hate that some people (mostly men) force me to be rude with their complete lack of manners and respect. I've never resorted to the boyfriend excuse because I absolutely refuse to let some imaginary person be the reason you finally leave me alone, but I've sure felt like it. Instead, I find myself losing my patience which sometimes ruins the evening (once I'm in a mood, it's hard to let go lol.) I've found that subtle sarcasm and insults with a polite undertone work well- I once asked a guy (very politely lol) if he had hearing impairment as I'd already loudly declined his invite to sit with him twice. He gave me a dirty look and walked away lol.

@@925lexi Please do! I've found that insults like that with a completely natural tone come off harder to them than just being rude and saying fuck off or something because they think you're being nice or flirting, but then they process the words. It's quite comical to see the expressions when it finally sinks in.

Don't want to come across as a simp but as a guy I feel so bad that shit like this happens because I'm naturally empathetic and I know if I was in their shoes I would lose my fucking mind because I don't even like when girls or guys try to talk to me in a non sexual manner when I'm with my friends. If I had a friend that behaved like this I would chew him out. It's so unfair that some people can't just enjoy themselves when they're out

as a guy its not always clear cut. we are socialized into making the moves when we are interested in a particular gal. This is not excusing the creeps or those that are either rude or clumsy in their approach. I am in the mindset that if you are not interested, really and truly you should straight up say you are not dating AT ALL. Now about the time of the day when you approach women. I can't see why some dudes approach women at night outside of safe places/zones where people are congregating. there will never a universe where this is appropriate. It is it is intimidating . The dating approach needs to be modernized and revised entirely.

This happened to a friend of mine. Mind you, she’s been married to her husband for over 20 years and she works at a grocery store and this very handsome man would always go in and try and talk to her and just exchange harmless pleasantries. Until one day he had the balls to ask her out. She politely declined and said, I’m married. This pompous asshat said, “and I have a wife. Who cares?!” Like WHAT?!

Its just insane how we have to deal with being harassed all the time and it changes us, even when we're trying hard not to not let it. Like I was speaking to my grandmother, who is in her 70s, she says only now that she is an "old lady" she feels comfortable enough to allow herself to walk naturally and sway her hips. She has been altering the way she walks her entire life so as to not try to attract the male gaze.

@ u keep on posting in the comments of this video that it happens to both genders like that’s somehow changing anything. Men do not get overwhelmingly harassed and assaulted by women like that fam. And yes we can talk about the abuse men face, but when you try to mention “both genders” you’re actively trying to shift the very concerning issue of men and their lack of respect for women.

It’s so sad the fact that a simple “NO” respectfully, isn’t enough. It sucks that we have to make up a “justifiable” reason at some point, most of us been through that. Why must we act like we’re taken or belong to someone (usually male). Ever since that one time that “reason” stopped working for me from that one stranger that insulted me with “you’re ugly anyway” after I pretended to answer my phone “ hey dad, I’m just around the corner, you can pick me up by the x store”. I wouldn’t give any reasons anymore, I’d just straight up and say “I’m not interested, no means no and if I have to say it again then I would yell”.

It's more complicated than that. These guys who are insanely persistent are actually successful with women, which is why they continue, it's just that it only works with 1/10 girls. So this tiny minority of guys behave like this with tons of women, severely inflate the negative experience women have with men, and in the end they get laid with a tiny fraction of girls who happened to be extra horny that night or have mental problems of their own (daddy issues, etc.) at the expense of everyone else. Many women speak of "the guy I regret banging" and often it's these psychopathic, non-empathetic men who really don't give a shit about the girl but she was horny, and he always is. This is an unfortunate side-effect of hookup culture, and there's really no solution to it. I'd also say the fascination and elevation of fuck-boys is a part of the problem. Fuck-boys are essentially guys who don't give a crap about the woman's boundaries, but because he is so attractive she can't help herself against him. Take the same fuck-boy behavior and put it into one of these badly socialized and/or sociopathic guys - or even just an average guy - and it's gonna produce a situation exactly like she describes in the video. Guys look up to other guys who are successful with women. They see these fuck-boys treat girls like crap and get laid. They want to emulate it. Girls in the comment section complaining about "how men don't respect women" don't understand this problem. It is only a fraction of men who are psychopathically uncaring about women's boundaries. The vast majority of the rest of us guys are not like that, but we don't go out to nightclubs 2 times a week for 5 years approaching an average of 10 women every night. A guy like that has 100 interactions with women every year. What do I have? Maybe 5, 10 at max?

Well about the creepy things guys are doing... a male friend told me that men's never experienced this fear of being followed in dark alleys... This is why they don't know about our fears... He was also such a person until a female friend told him that all women's walking faster, pretending to be on the phone in night when we walk home and somebody is like following us, now he tries to switch the side of the street when he notices that a women feels uncomfortable while he walked after her...

I always keep a whole 10 feet of space between me and women when it gets dark. and when i walk under the tunnel near my home if a woman is there i';ll let her disappear entirely. if she hasn't noticed anything i'll switch the light on my phone. The bridge near my house, the exit is set up in a way that makes it easy for people to be either snatched when they exit the bridge or robbed even. even i feel funny when i am under there. There was a similar one where i used to live as a kid and i remember being ambushed there by racist white kids. it left me with a strong PTSD that i still can't shake off. and its been decades at this point.

When I was living in Korea I once had a guy follow me home from work. I didn’t have one of those fancy automatic locks and didn’t lock up because I was only coming in to get my dog to take her out to walk. He actually opened my door just as I was about to open it and it surprised him so much that he just went to my neighbor’s door and fiddled with his keys. I think he was scared of my dog. After I left the building I hid behind a car and saw him come back out and look around for me. Be careful- Korea’s not as safe as you think. You’re so good at telling stories!! 😭💜 I hate that women have to deal with this. I was having a conversation about this with my aunt and she was telling me about a time when she was sitting on an empty train carriage, and a creepy man decided that he wanted to sit RIGHT next to her. He kept staring at her and putting his leg right next to hers. She told me that she knew she should have moved, but she “didn’t want to seem ‘rude’” or make it awkward. I felt so bad for her, but I understood where she was coming from and I’m sure most women do too. Society really makes women feel like they should just ‘smile and deal with it’. It’s so manipulative and I hate that. I really want to teach young girls that they don’t owe these men anything. If someone makes you uncomfortable, you don’t owe them the privilege of ‘politeness’. Some men feel so entitled to our bodies and it’s so awful because they know we won’t say anything.

When someone is persistent and offers you a drink, take it and give it to someone else in front of their face. If they keep trying to talk to you, tap the shoulder of someone near you and tell them "this" person wants to talk to you, then walk away. If all else fails, pour the god damn drink over his head.

As another woman who lives in Korea, I can attest to similar experiences. I used to live in Hongdae, a very lively student area in Seoul. TWICE I was in my apartment and some guy started banging and shouting at my door at like 2-3, in the morning. What terrified me was he was obviously a Korean guy (by appearance and accent) but he was speaking broken English, trying to get me to open the door. He stayed for nearly an hour each time-- one of the scariest situations I've ever been in. There was also once where I was waiting to cross the road with my friend and-- I kid you not-- this guy walked in slow circles around us like 3 times. Up-skirting is a very big issue here-- why I ALWAYS wear leggings, no matter how hot it is.

Proud of you for telling the managers about that guy though! Always listen to your gut even if it ends up being nothing because there is always a reason you feel uncomfortable, so don't feel bad if it ends up not being dangerous. It's always better to make some dumbass guy think you're afraid of him than to actually let a dangerous guy hurt you out of fear of offending,

yoo the first story reminds me of that CCTV footage where the guy follows a girl up the stairs and literally has his hand ready to force the door open as she closes it behind her. I’m pretty sure he turned himself in because people got so pissed off tho... but that kind of story is really the scariest bc u have no idea what could have happened if you’d been a second too late. And the thing is, even if you notice that creepy behavior, besides continuing on to your apartment, if there’s no one awake/readily available in the building, what can you do? You probably don’t want to exit the building again after realizing someone is following you. You don’t want to let the guy get too close. It’s so fuckin creepy dude

I really hope we won't be approached by any creeps and if we do, I hope we will have eachothers back causeeee oof it sounds scary especially because I'm a bit shy so it's difficult for me to say "no" to someone, especially if they seem stronger than me (men mostly seem stronger than me cause i'm quite small and so is my friend).

Self defence is key, you should always stand up for yourself if you need to and not give in to men because you're intimidated. By allowing them to think their actions are right is allowing this to happen to more women, no matter who or where, you need to stand up to them.

Asian man are just extra sometimes. Me and my friend we visit Korea some time and one time we was walking by the Han river and two of the Korean guys approached us and want us to go for a drink and food etc but we said no. Even that they was still trying to push us to go so we said that we have husbands (which is true lol). Do you think that change anything? No! They was like oh so where is your husband, they should be om with that you go for a dinner with us. You can just say you was busy, don't need to tell them. Like wth?? We finally get them to leave us but they was following us for some time and disappeared later. That was so annoying

It's so annoying when men can not take a no, even when you say you have a boyfriend. I was on exchange in Korea last year and I remember in particular this one man in Hongdae (during the daytime) that asked for my number. First of all he looked like he was in his early 30s. (For your reference I was 19 and people always tell me I look 2-3 years younger than my actual age, so there's no way he thought I was older.) So, I tell him no sorry. I proceed to walk towards the subway station. He walks with me and asks why not. I say I have a boyfriend (which I don't). He still keeps walking with me and I repeat that I have a boyfriend and am not interested in meeting other guys. Then he says; "I don't see your boyfriend" Uhm like wtf? So I ignore him and keep walking. Then he asks for my number again, stating that we can just be friends. AGAIN I say no, sorry I'm not interested. He kept stalking me for a bit and then left once I entered the subway. I had similar instances multiple times, especially with older men (like 30s and 40s) while I clearly looked and dressed like a teen. It was kind of scary and I was just weirded out. Plus it was all in public spaces in clear daylight. Like are you not embarrassed?

Oh my gosh! There's footage of guys doing this type of this in Korea on KZbin too. Do not go out alone at night. Maybe you could call someone as you walk to the store at night incase so they will think twice about it or even make friends with a girl on your floor and call each other if you need to step out for like a few mins together. I feel like if you have proof or footage of someone doing this on a CCTV, it should be law for them to have their "junk" cut off. It's like are you even human....? It would only take a few occasions for word to spread and men would think again before trying this disgusting type of thing.

@@annienova Totally! But I think that it is safer than other countries doesn't necessarily mean that it is safe. I think I just have different expectations as to what it is a 'safe' environment for women and if I'm being followed or harassed, personally, I wouldn't call that place safe, much less specifically safe for women. I hear a lot of women living in South Korea reporting the exact same experience and that, to me, makes me think that it is not safe for women yet a lot of people continue to say so. Anyway, thanks for sharing your story. Looking forward to your next video! 😊
