Seeing this in 2022 (almost 2023) just blows my mind that this is a production of 7 years ago. It is beautiful. In every way. How does one come up with this as a concept... and then execute it so perfectly? Wow... just wow...

Few demos have gotten me as emotional as the final scene in this one, it's something special. Almost something that you wouldn't expect to come out of a subculture focused heavily on (friendly) dick measuring one's technical skills.
@marcohernandez25198 ай бұрын
the fact that all visuals is generated by coding and some texture files make it more AWESOME!!!
@EldersOfTheInternet3 жыл бұрын
Sometimes I think these guys basically won the demoscene. There's a lot of great prods out there but I keep circling back around to this one. It's brilliant, simply brilliant.
@SturmFlut2 жыл бұрын
It's nice and all, but it's a 120 megabyte (!) demo that contains the plain 3D models and textures. The demo is hardly smaller than the video people wach here on KZbin. Basically the opposite of what the demoscene stands for.
@fonkbadonk53702 жыл бұрын
@@SturmFlut I'd beg to differ. The Scene isn't just about squeezing content down to miniscule size. There are specific discipliines with that goal, yes, and it's an art in itself, but there have been big prod demos ever since w/o any size restrictions and they have deseverdly won high accolades ever since the scene existed, merit of their artistic and production values. I personally see the technical and artistic value in either of those categories, and no matter the mere file size, ASD has continued to excel in the unrestricted drawer for many years on art, style and direction alone for many years. No need to make it 64k to be worth celebrating.
@EldersOfTheInternet2 жыл бұрын
I exaggerated but I just think it's a really good demo - art, music, programming coming together. I also love the amazing 64k stuff from groups like conspiracy, mercury, etc. I still remember loading a demo from a cassette tape on our amstrad cpc that was just a 2d silhouette of a man running but using impossible colours I'd never seen on my screen before, I love the scene still going strong on targeting old hardware like amstrads, commodores, even vic 20's. I get a kick out of playing modern games targeting this old hardware. There's a lot to appreciate and everything needs to be taken in context. In this demo there's just an excellent delivery of a visual and audio narrative that's incredibly evocative, there are some strong technical elements but I don't truly think they "won" the entire demoscene, I was just really trying to express my overall enjoyment of this piece in particular, sort of like when you do something that pleases others and people say "you're the best" or whatever, like really? are you the best? You know what I mean. Big ups to the entire scene honestly.

@@SturmFlut The demoscene is about a lot of things. Foremost its about realtime-art. And this is realtime-art for sure.
@gregmark16888 ай бұрын
@@SturmFlut I know it's been a year or more, but I still have to point this out: at over 2 megabytes in 1993, Second Reality was bigger than a number of commercially available games. Some of us did complain -- not about the "correctness", but about the time it took to d/l the thing. lol Anyway, I think it's a better standard to compare the visual experience to games that came out around the same time, and then compare the resources used. Cause 120 MB sure seems tiny by today's standards. (I do agree with your point, tho -- real coders would have taken the time to compress the data. Surely that very-low-res video of two parents and a child, along with some object models ain't got to take up nearly that much space. So yeah, releasing like this kinda makes them seem lazy. But that doesn't make the demo any less amazing to watch, does it?)

Nothing flows like an ASD demo. BTW I'd love to see ASD mess around with VR. I think this ray marcher artstyle would be really cool in VR. Perhaps when the consumer versions hit the market the demoscene will start messing with them.

I tried it on my laptop (running Linux, ran it with Proton) and it just crashed with the dedicated GPU (Nvidia MX250 with proprietary drivers). On the Intel GPU, it runs, but even at 800x450 it barely manages to get 10-15FPS, and at some point everything becomes blurry (from watching the video, it's when the camera starts shaking. I guess it's probably a bit too much motion blur for that low of a framerate). I should probably try on Windows tomorrow, since that's what it's written for. It runs perfectly on my PC (i7-9700K and RTX2060 running Windows).

Is this the same Andromeda as the old Amiga demo scene group?
@douglasalves48928 жыл бұрын
No !
@monstercolorfunco43918 жыл бұрын
It's the same as Nebula. That video is pretty illustrative of a supernova, which has the ebility to eject many stars away from it by compressing nearby clouds and making star formation, and if we could see the star forming zones over millions of years they would explode in that fasion similarly.
@aaro12688 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure you understood the question or watched the video... Andromeda (Software Development), also known as ASD, is a group that makes videos like this. These kinds of videos were made all the way back when the Amiga was a common computer, and Andromeda was also one of the groups from back then. Pouet is the definitive website for sharing these demos, and it is a great way to find groups too. Here's a link that shows the different groups named Andromeda: www.pouet.net/search.php?what=andromeda&type=group
@sotirisvarotsis58487 жыл бұрын
No, we are a different group, and we were never making demos on Amiga. However, we did collaborate with Archmage of Andromeda in our demo Lifeforce.
