When I was teaching my kids to dive I had the them hold on to a boat cushion or fender and just float with their heads in the water. Then I tied a line to the float and pulled them around. It teaches them to relax and they can just look around.
@mellando97706 ай бұрын
This is how I learnt too. And holding mum or dads hand at the same time as holding a floating device being towed. They were clever enough to make it a counting competition. Who could find the most blue gosh, star fish, shells etc. We didn’t realise how long we were keeping our heads under. Soon enough we didn’t want to be above the water. ❤

I LOVE your diving videos - they are my favorite. Amazing video quality. The sharks are kind of scary. 😳 I could dive happily without them. You must be so proud of Sierra's progress in the water. I also learn so much watching you sail under challenging situations. Thank you!

Wow thanks so much Dwight, so happy you are enjoying the dive videos...you will love next week's episode too then! It is a little scary at first diving with sharks, but once you get used to seeing them and learning their behavior it can become a very peaceful and beautiful experience. And YES we are so pleased with how Sierra's swimming and confidence in the water is coming along...so a joy to watch her come into her own out here 💕 Thanks for your support and for coming along on the adventure with us Dwight!

This may be one of my favorite videos you guys have done. I was finally able to get my 8yr old to put a snorkel on in the BVI's a few months ago and now he has a serious addiction to finding turtles. You guys always find a way to squeeze in information and I love that you're spreading the word about coral bleaching and how El Nino is screwing with sea life. Very thoughtful, beautiful footage, nice choice in music. Good Job Sierra for being brave and swimming in the ocean! That first time they put their head under water is special and I'm super excited for her. Cheers, Delos!

This was truly a spectacular video. The underwater sea life, and the clearness of the waters were so beautiful. Brian I love your narration during the underwater scenes. I think I’ve said this before, your videos are on a National Geographic scale, but even better because it’s so personal and we get to share your lives and adventures. Sierra is becoming quite the fish! She is doing great with her swimming, it will be so exciting when she puts her mask into the water for the first time and experiences the amazing world you all have become a part of. She is such a cutie pie. Love you guys. You are a beautiful family.❣️

Many of your dives (this one especially) remind me of the countless hours that I spent free-diving, snorkeling, and SCUBA diving down around the southeast corner of the island of Aruba (then still part of the Netherlands Antilles). The acres of healthy corral, sadly, aren't what they once were in the '50s and '60's of my childhood and teenage years. On a dive that I made sometime around 1995, there was just so much gray and dying staghorn corral habitat. It was sad. But at least I remember what it once was like and still is in places like these waters of French Polynesia. If we don't seriously address the issue of climate change, though, your daughter, Sierra, may never witness such a dive again -- especially as she's still not yet comfortable putting her face in the water to gaze at the wonder of it all! But that day, too, will come. 💞
@pppamelis6 ай бұрын
I think about this a lot whenever we're sailing and how my 8yr old will never see what I saw in my childhood. These kids do care and I believe in them! My son refuses to use plastic straws because he absolutely loves sea turtles and once he discovered his love of snorkeling he started educating himself and found a video about straws. He'll sit down at a restaurant and say "No straw please I'm trying to save the sea turtles". All us older folks can do is plant the seed and educate. Aruba is one of my favorite places - you're so fortunate to have seen healthy coral down there.

Great video, thank you. If you're concerned about coral health, stay off the bottom and don't touch in anything but an emergency - keep your gauges tidy and snugged up close. Any instructor such as I was will tell you the same, the difference is obvious in those places that are commonly dived. Don't fight the current, do a drift, lead diver carries an smb. To minimize your chance of attracting unwanted attention from a shark, stay more vertical in the water and create the minimum fuss possible. God bless and stay well xx 🤗🤗

You probably have already tried this trick... but our swimming instructor got us comfortable with the water as kids by first blowing bubbles at the side of the pool (something secure) with our chin in the water. I remember practicing in the sink later, and then the bathtub. From there we graduated to getting our eyes under the water still blowing bubbles. And then came the big moment of holding our breath with just our face in the water - and then it went from there.

Hi guys... I've been following you now for a while and you are absolutely gorgeous all together... I'm just a simple person, you know, from nowhere but I do understand now, why you chose that way of living. Well, I'm portuguese and as you'd understand We all have also a strong bound to the sea and obviously it would also be a dream for me such a living with no boundries, just waves, wind, sea conditions, current and... without knowing what tomorrow could/would/will be and it that way discovering the world and all these marvelous things that we can experience, share, respect and enjoy from the wild "blue" and mother nature. Sometimes I get melancholic with your videos because it reminds me also all the great adventures on some beaches and seas that I had with my family. And sometimes I do feel for you and I do understand how hard it can be for you with all these unforeseens... But you're taking it in a such smooth way... with harmony, you know, with simplicity, with certainty. All three of you are very smart people and you have so much experience now that we all can feel, if i can say so, that kind of joy flowing in your veins. With all that courage, I wish you to travel the world 10000 times around and find a million heavens in a 1000 lifetimes.
