ANNO DOMINI 476 D.C. - LA FINE DELL' IMPERO ROMANO D'OCCIDENTE

Riassunto
In questa lezione assisteremo agli ultimi due decenni di vita dell'Impero Romano d'Occidente come istituzione statale. Dopo l'anno 476 saranno necessari altri trecento anni perchè Carlo Magno abbia la possibilità di ricostruire in una modalità simile l'antico Impero romano. Tuttavia l'imperatore dei Franchi preferirà impiegare le sue forze nella "cristianizzazione" forzata della Germania e in seguito l'Impero Tedesco degli Ottoni e dei loro successori germanici non avrà mai la consistenza territoriale del Mondo Tardo Antico.
L'impero d'Occidente sopravviverà come idea e dichiarazione teorica di esistenza fino allo stato Austro-Ungarico, ma l'Europa Occidentale non riavrà più una sua unità politica, economica e militare.

Summary
In this lesson we will witness the last two decades of the life of the Western Roman Empire as a state institution. After the year 476, it would take another three hundred years for Charlemagne to be able to rebuild the ancient Roman Empire in a similar manner. However, the Frankish emperor would prefer to employ his forces in the forced 'Christianisation' of Germany, and thereafter the German Empire of the Ottonians and their Germanic successors would never have the territorial consistency of the Late Antique World.
The Western Empire will survive as an idea and theoretical declaration of existence until the Austro-Hungarian state, but Western Europe will no longer regain its political, economic and military unity.
