I have a laminated bookmark that has all of the categories I normally annotate and then I put a colored tab over the ones I use. Plus since it's laminated I can write in wet erase marker if I add a category for that book. That way I have my key with me at all times and can transfer it to the title page when I complete the book.

Love your tab storage process. I'm quickly losing control of mine and will likely take/adapt this idea. I already have the laminator so it's perfect. I'll likely use music sheets, dictionary pages, etc. since I make junk journals, so I have all the supplies. So smart. Thanks for the idea!

I just annotated my first book this month because of you. It took forever but it was worth it. I wish I had used darker tabs. I used pastel ones and they don’t pop like yours do.

Have you found highlighters and markers that don’t bleed through? I’ve tried the Medline, Bic and Sharpie and they all come through the other side. Happy Reading and Annotating! 📚🕯️✨

Ive heard bible markers dont. I find the yellow sharpie doesnt and the stabilo cool swing only occassionally at the start or end of scentences i find. Good luck

how do you know if a book is worth annotating? You dont. HOWEVER, i always start by using pencil and tabs so incase its not the vibe, i just erase it all orrr if i like it i go back over it with pen later :))

You can start with writing your reactions on post-its - there's different sizes. Or if you really like a quote you can write the page number and the start of the quote on a loose leaf sheet of paper or notebook and the go back and highlight it when you're ready to mark up your book. It's so much fun! It's a great way to interact with your book and personalize it. Enjoy!
