I've been a Luminar user since it became available for PCs, but for some reason, I just can't click the preorder button. If it's a combination of L4 and LAI, why get it? I can do most of those things already in the earlier programs. I also have Photoshop, so getting rid of dust and power lines is a snap, as is compositing. This is my roundabout way of saying Skylum hasn't yet convinced me this is worth the money.

I can understand that. And while one can get fairly quick at removing dust spots & power lines in PS, quick can still mean a few minutes whereas it looks like the click of a button in Neo. That time savings right there for me would be worth the $34. The relight with AI looks promising, AI masking too - which will be interesting to see what that is all about.

Seems like Luminar 4 + new features + the best of Luminar AI + way faster = Neo. I'm personally excited about the new Relight and AI Background removal features. And anything that lets me do something in a click vs. by hand is worth a few bucks.

@@MattSuessPhoto You'll probably still have to paint over the power lines, otherwise how would the program know what you wanted removed when you clicked that button? :)

@@fenraven it will be using AI to know what are power lines and what are not. Will be interesting to see how accurate the AI is, and what if any manual override controls one has if the AI makes a mistake.

Hey Matt, good to see something from you. Subscribed long ago but while I have a lot of info related to LAi I was surprised nothing from you and now we find out why. I have a tough time if I decide to purchase because I enjoy the work of so many YT tutorial creators and have saved links related to all the products since 2018 that I have come across. My last purchase was L3 but had issues. Was going to update the computer but along came C19 and with its issues and price of parts and lack thereof, the update is on hold likely till about 2023 if I make it to 80 years old. From seeing some of the replacements, I assume that sky replacement will still be available. Glad that layers are being returned. I think I will order today NEO as the investment for us Canucks is low and no longer working (soon 22 years retired as a photographer) I can be content with a simple folder organization as a DAM (N) option lol. Next thing is to view Anthony Turnham's video re NEO and try to learn anything else of value. Thanks for the valuable info.

Hey thanks for watching! Yeah, I just wasn't really excited about LAI and thus no videos from me outside of talking about the sky replacement in it. Neo should have as good if not better sky replacement - looking forward to getting a beta once available to start testing and reporting.

Thanks for sharing your preliminary thoughts on the new Luminar Neo product, Matt; it was quite helpful. Do you know if Skylum will bring back the the image ratings and color labels that were available in L4 and previous versions of Luminar? I find that feature immensely helpful in photo editing and sharing workflow. Thanks

Thanks for watching Ed! So far there has been no mention of bringing back ratings/color labels so I have no idea if it is planned or not. I know that is a useful feature and I'll bring it to their attention next time I talk with them.

Unfortunately the L4 catalog will not be compatible with Neo. It can work as a plugin in PS and LR and Photos, but not sure about Affinity.

It doesn't look like there is a focus stacking feature, so you would have to mask those layers manually.

Photoshop has the ability to select extraneous straight lines anywhere in the picture with the rectangular select. What if you have scanned a print and it has a fold or other straight line and the picture does not have any sky? Can you remove it?

I'm excited with Luminar Neo, but one thing Skylum needs to improve is speed, the slowness and the blurr every time is exhausting. Other than that workspace personalisation and layers will be a great addition

From Peter Forsgard's channel I understand that Skylum is dumping Luminar AI, only bug fixes from now on. Don't think that's a descent move from Skylum. Bought AI this December.

They are not dumping LAI - watch my video at 16:29 to learn what they are doing with LAI moving forward. They have delivered all the features they initially intended to do with LAI and will continue to support it with new camera compatibility, OS compatibility, and more.

Every new Luminar product is a "brand new engine with great performance". Such crap. Have one product and build on it and make it better and more advanced and keep consistency so we can build up our catalogue of edits. This thing that every year they try to sell us a brand new product NOT compatible with previous Luminar edits - I am so done with that! Thanks goodness I have Affinity Photo and Photoshop/LR. Affinity Photo is cheaper than Luminar and as good as Photoshop.
