Annual Hugelkultur Raised Bed Maintenance | Getting Ready For Spring Gardening!

Hugelkultur is natures raised bed. No need for lumber or concrete blocks. All you need is some tree trimmings or larger pieces of tree trunk along with any other compostable plant biomass, and finally some soil. The idea is that the "hugel mound" as it's often referred, will absorb winter rains like a sponge providing the plants growing on the hugel access to moister throughout the drier months. Older more mature mounds accomplish this better than younger mounds as the materials therein have had a chance to decay and breakdown. Other possible benefits include, easier access to garden beds because of their raised height, and soil creation that can help condition poor quality soils below. Hugelkultur can be a great way to "close the loop" in your landscape allowing you to utilize and get the most out of the organic materials that might otherwise go to the waste or burn pile.

Your production quality is going up with this chill music you're using. Your videos are already therapeutic and you're making it even more so with your selection of music lol. Also, you should look into getting a lapel mic. They're pretty affordable on amazon. And maybe even one of those fuzzy mic guards for your camera to block out the sound from the wind.

Two great looking mounds, with a well mulched path. Should be plenty of fertility in there come spring weather. I don't have the room you do, but thinking I might remove the soil in a couple of my wood framed raised beds(2'x8'x8"), place some firewood and branches in the bottom, then replace the soil on top. Have known about hugelkultur for some years now, about time I tried it. Had to laugh when 3 of your chickens approached the mound, near the end there. They may have been thinking "We'll come back when he's gone and tear this down." Ahh, chickens!

I love this !!!! We just did two hugelkulture mounds this year ,,, about 3 months ago,,, so that we could plant them here in the next months for Spring !I I really wanted to see one just like this one to see how ours will look next year and what we needed to do ! Thank you !

To suppress weeds for a nice pathway or to fill in a swale so you can walk on it. My chips serve both purposes between the mounds. Cheers!
