Heilung's music never fails to make me cry. It just gives you this surge of almost ancient, primal emotion. It feels like coming home. They're geniuses.

The Great Mother speaks through Heilung and others, we who feel it in our hearts can hear her call. You can feel it flowing through you, you may cry because they remind us of who we are as humans and the subconscious part of us jumps awake and its overwhelming to feel that connection and tears of regret for how we live and tears of how beautiful that lifestyle is, is. If you react that way than you hear mothers calling back to the natural way of being one of her children.

I find it interesting that many of the reactors, yourselves included see the scene where the little girl has a dead bird in the palm of her hand. The scene changes for a moment or two, and at that moment the reactors take their eyes off the screen, completely missing the bird coming alive in the girls hand and flying off. I have to resist yelling at the reactors, knowing full well they cannot hear me.

On this occasion, the members of the group provide us with invaluable information about the song and its lyrics. The lyrics for this piece are mainly taken from bracteates: golden, circular coins or amulets found in Northern Europe that date from the 4th to 7th centuries CE. They are often fitted with a decorated rim and loop, which indicates that they were meant to be worn and perhaps provide protection, fulfil wishes or for divination. The bracteates feature a very significant iconography influenced by Roman coinage. They were predominantly made from Roman gold, which was given to the North Germanic peoples as peace money. In Anoana, the listener has the chance to delve into a collection of likely encoded spells from the Migration Period and get a touch of magic from the Dark Ages. The intention of the piece is to playfully reconnect to an incantational language of a period where the North was richer in gold than any other region. Our forefathers presumably enjoyed a time of great prosperity and it may make us rethink how dark these ages real. A hug.

I really appreciate the sound engineering on this one, how the male voice(s) dance around from right to left and all points in between. I always feel a stirring in my soul whenever I listen to Heilung, though that feeling is stronger with Wardruna. Still, Heilung is brilliant and I always look forward to experiencing them. As for Ginger's request about nature, there's a nature preserve near me with a bunch of trails going through it. One of the trails is a long trek to a pine forest with huge pines. My wife and I go there a few times a year in the early morning because everything feels still, there's a mist that hasn't burnt off yet, and the sun is still rising. What little sounds there are come from nature, the smells are fresh and earthy and pine-y, and it's usually a bit cold so we get close and feel like the world is standing still around us.

The most into wilderness I have been was in the early '60s when, as a young teen, I attended a camp in the Quetico-Superior. After a few days preparing at base camp, we canoed into the wilderness for 10 glorious days. It is the only time I've had the awesome privilege of seeing a night sky completely devoid of surrounding artificial light.

The moment of silence you have at the end of the song while you pull yourself back to reality, and try to process what you thought and felt. That's priceless to me. I value that feeling more than happiness and love, it runs deeper than both, it's the primordial soup that all other feelings emerge from.

Great reaction. Can I just add som points that are important in seeing this? The most important being that the child is born under an eclipse (seen in background several times). According to previking believs they had very special gifts: hamnskifte (= the ability to change appearance), age shift, talking to animals etc The previking time and it's religion in nordic countries is much more female directed than the religion in the later years (viking gods like Tor and Oden... )

The end is easily explained, i think thar was not a Prequel. More a Sequel. Shamans in the north, depending on the tribe they belonged to, put an end to their lives when they felt that they were weakening or had reached a certain age so that their mind and strength could pass to the next generation. From their point of view, this ensured that the trunk was always accompanied and protected by a strong shaman.

I came across an interpretation - no idea if this was one person's idea or they had information to back it up. Anoana is a demigoddess of protection, whose birth fortells the coming of Christianity. The ox (it's a musk ox, but whatever) is a symbol of the unifying spread of Christianity. Hence the young girl welcomes her new Christian friends, but as a woman she realises the end has come. 😥
