Yeah, that is so so dumb. Like, loading screens are only implemented as a matter of necessity for the most part. When developers *can* make travel instant or have loading happen in the background they often will because being forced to wait is annoying, hell this was one of the big reasons Nintendo stuck with cartridges for the N64 over using CD-ROMs like all their competitors at the time. And how did he not know about the many, many games that make "WE HAVE NO LOADING SCREENS (in gameplay)" one of their selling points?

I think that people are overcritical with Haze, because everyone does treat Haze as a weirdo, he's not really liked by anyone except Craig. When confronted with people who have no qualms against hurting him, they do in fact try to kill him. The punks who chase him with knives, and Gabriel at the end. Anonymous Agony grips me in an odd way because it feels both super disconnected with reality yet super down to earth. If someone talked to you like Haze did in real life, you probably would have to just laugh it off or stay quiet like people do in the game. Later in the script a lot of Haze's personality is explored, it's not all good but the writer did have a planned message to tell, it's just that Haze is too much of a filter for people. You probably would just walk away from Haze in real life if you had the choice, just like you would choose not to play the game or read the script when you hear his dialogue.

I suspect that the scenes involving Craig (at least a few of them) and others that don't really mesh with the "Haze is the super cool self-insert guy" narrative were written by a different person who wasn't as sold on Haze as the lead director was. I have no reason to believe that in as far as my knowledge of the game's development goes, but it still feels very strange to me that there's scenes that essentially point out Haze's flaws and make him the butt of gags when the game is believed to be written by someone who was using the game as wish fulfillment. Likely someone else writing or changing these characters around, managing to convince the edgelord that its better for the story etc. It all feels kind of out of place so I can't shake the feeling of there being other people behind it. You can also notice the shift in the side characters as the game goes on. At the start its all SUPER edgy and everyone is an asshat, making haze the supreme smug bastard that nobody can outwit, this all starts to break apart slowly and very awkwardly. Like a vanity project where someone is trying to slow the hero down.

It's possible he ran some of the dialog by his stepdad or someone that puts up with him in real life, but I'm really getting the vibe some of these lines are just ripped from someone else's brain entirely. When you compare the psych's lines when he first meets Haze and talks about his anger issues to his appearance later when he reveals the final boss it's like the latter was original dialog the writer came up with and the former was quoted verbatim from an irl therapy session.

For about 90% of this game, none of what happens is real: instead, it's just a fantasy dreamt up in Haze's head in order to cope with what happened to his sister. Haze tossing the psychiatrist through the window? Didn't happen; was just a fantasy. Haze luring predators to his home and feeding them to junkyard dogs? Didn't happen; was just a fantasy. Haze teaming up with a sword wielding bounty hunter to defeat a guy selling women? Didn't happen; was just a fantasy. The ONLY "real" parts of this game are the beginning and the end. That would explain why Haze can't bring himself to actually shoot the man who harmed his sister: *he had never shot anyone before in his entire life. That's why he had the "fatal hesitation" moment when it came time to pull the trigger: he couldn't actually work up the nerve to go through with it.*

Everything in this game is so much, but... Craig just hits my dopamine centers just right. He is kind of adorable, tries so hard, and is an almost aggressively soft man. I nearly lost it when he came to borrow the blender. He's just such a golden retriever that even Haze ends up stumbling. Craig is the secret star of this game.

I mean, we don’t know what Craig is like in his work life. Hell, the one thing we know about Craig’s job is that he’s obsessively pouring over evidence to try and hunt down the guy who attacked his wife. Not to mention that he seemingly has a fixation on Haze after his wife got injured, his son moved away, and he was present at Haze’s house when Clara got taken away. Maybe it would have been revealed in a sequel that Craig was aware the entire time of Haze’s killing spree, but turned a blind eye because he was able to live vicariously through him. Haze is both a surrogate son Craig can help raise, and somebody who’s able to follow through on his revenge in a way that Craig cannot.

The games were notoriously low quality and there was absolutely no quality control. The only real saving grace was that these games were only 99¢ for the most part. As for the kind of games you would find, it would be anything from crappy horror games, terrible FPS games, shity racing games, a weird game called "house of cockroach" that was basically house of the dead but with fucking cockroaches for some damn reason, I remember a weird 360 avitar dating game, a hentai puzzle game thing, and so many other stupid things lmfao. Not to say it was all bad though!
