Mesmeric... I'm used to hearing this on a harpsichord, usually played prestissimo. This is lovely 😀

My goodness! I have very catholic tastes in music, everything from baroque, to irish folk, to boogie woogie, to synthesizer music. But my favourite piece in all music is My Ladye Carey's Dompe, played on Virginals (Rachelle Taylor), Harpsichord (Sirinu), guitar (Albanach Guitar duo), or harp, but not piano. Finally, somebody makes it work for piano, in a slower tempo, and a more melancholic character. Quite beautiful!

This piece is almost 500 years old, about 200 years before the piano was invented. Sounds very good here.

There was a Lady Carey , Mary Boleyn who was cast aside by HenryVIII when he discovered her sister Anne . Mary married a chap called William Carey. Or, it might have been their daughter Catherine. Either way I think the song was written for one of them 😊😊

Very fine performance! Question about lighting and reading from score: it is appropriate and interesting. Were you influenced by another pianist in this?

Quite a change from Puyana's performance and it would have been more consistent and indeed more beautiful if the pianist has eschewed the trills that do nothing for his purpose starting at 1'52". But until 1'52", it is an eye-opener of a performance, haunting as it should be and very poetic

I agree that the trills and ornamental notes get out of hand... but this stately, dreamlike interpretation of my all-time favorite melody is such a miracle.

This works really well at this tempo. Well played! I have just recorded it on my spinet for the first time, at breakneck tempo. I will experiment with slow tempi too - after all it may be intended to be a dirge! Saving this for future viewing!

I just did a search 'My Ladey Carey's Dompe manuscript.' I don't think 'manuscript' is the right word but it popped up.

Do you know how are selected the notes in the "trille" ? I have the partition but it's like the first time he plays it, without "ornemental notes". If you have any advice how to "develop" the true version with those lovely addition I'm interested
