This week's video is another 100 year old Winchester. This is the Model 92 chambered in 32 Winchester Center Fire (WCF) or .32-20.
I don't have any ballistics data this week as this ammo is hand loads with no bullet info.
gun data dot org says the average bullet is 100gr with the following average ballistic data:
Muzzle Velocity: 1210fps
Muzzle Energy: 325 ft-lbs
This info is included for reference.
Also: If you're wondering, the remote microphone set that I used in the end of the last video... I left it sitting on the counter when I left for the range...

We need more current production guns in the old 32 WCF.

I acquired the '92 Winchester (built in 1908) from my late brother-in-law. I had it inspected by a local gunsmith who said it was in perfect firing order, "if you can find the ammunition"! Well, it took awhile, but I found a company in Northern Idaho who manufactured it for me - took over a year for my order to be filled. I purchased 1000 rounds! I have not spent a lot of time with guns. I've fired my pistols and revolver at a local closed range, but feel I need some help with this one to get started. Your video has made me feel more comfortable doing that. I was concerned with recoil, but it doesn't look to have a lot of "kick" in your video.

The 32-20 is a fantastic rifle to get started on if you're not very comfortable with rifles. It has almost no kick at all and is very comfortable to shoot. I'm glad the video helped a little! What was the name of the company that you got the ammo from?

I have an old Savage model 99 in .250-3000 Savage, a takedown model, that will be 100 years old in 2026. Still in great shape!

Great video. I love the Winchester lever action rifles: (30-30; 44-40; 38-40; and 32-20). Much appreciation and love to you and your family. Stay safe and enjoy the beautiful land God has blessed us to own and enjoy!

I've an original 1892 chambered in 32.20, octogen barrel and all - made sometime around 1900 I haven't' shot it in sometime, it currently has some wobble between the breech and barrel so I'll take it to a gunsmith eventually. The last time I ran it at the range it just *drilled* a 4" target at 100 yards, smacked steel with some oompth despite being a little pistol cartridge. Damn impressive for what it is, would have zero issue dispatching coyotes and does - as it has in my family for the past 120+ years.

I just found your video. That is a great old Winchester with history and character. I have an old Colt army revolver before it become the official police from the early 1900's in the same calibre. I will check your blog post. Thanks.

Your cartridge "comparison" leads me to kind of wish Henry's would make an M92 sized action in .30 M1 Carbine. THAT would make a fun and practical lever gun.

My God how I envy you in that countryside. All I have is swamp, humidity, and ultra high temps. At least I have my 92 and 73 Win. Keep Shooting!

Liked and subscribed. Nice video, I’ve had my eye on a Win 92 in 32 at a local gun store for a while. I think I just made up my mind. 😉

... the old 32-20 is pretty anemic power wise even compared to the 44-40 Win or 30-30 Win ... amazingly deer have been taken with this cartridge ... don't know whether the deer were shot or the shooter beat them over the head with the butt stock

Out of an accurate rifle, the .32-20 should be good for varmints and small game out to about 150 yards, and okay for deer sized game out to about half that range, assuming good shot placement. If I recall correctly, the standard load is a 60 grain bullet at 1400 fps out of a carbine, just a little over .22 magnum ballistics with a beefier slug.

I still have to believe the 32-20 inspired the creation of the 30 carbine. Get a round of each in your hand and compare; you will see what I mean.
