Take it apart, try and date it and refin it more authentically! Then refret! No brainer!

Sounds glorious, the body has a nice grain, which is not so common on alder, so I wouldn't put a solid color.

Hey man. She's pretty dope, for sure, and that board is amazing. Since it's been refinished, why not go for that black refin? Black strats are pretty dope... And get it refreted while your at it. Also, I'd get rid of that weird backplate and sand the neck. Didn't get what that second string tree hole is- did it have a second one at one point, is that it? Thanks for sharing all this cool stuff, mate. Amazing. Cheers Edit: count me in for the "under the hood video"!

Carefully look for a broke wire on that mid pickup. Try to peal a wind or 2 outta there, cross the wires or tie them, and hold a match. They might fuse together. I put some finger nail polish on there to stabilize and protect. I had luck like that and saved a PUP before replacing it. I'd try that Fender PUP into the neck position. That amp always sounds great.
@TruthSurge5 жыл бұрын
wow, splotchy finish on that 2nd one. That looks absolutely unprofessionally done. You can even see the orangy color just globbing at the edge instead of fading like it should. How is that a '59 when it looks like it was made much later and maybe that is just a new finish but how? sloppy looking at any rate. 11:22 haha that feedback is doing a dom 7 in there. got a nice tone to it. I was thinking you might hit a few cliffs of dover lines.

Faded Fiesta Red would be AZMAZING with the mint guard & plastics. Keep the burst and use that as a base coat to keep the re-finish cost down. Once it's been played the black from the burst will eventually come through & give it some serious mojo. Defo a solid colour but my preference would be faded Fiesta Red.

I love the uniqueness and character to it. I reckon its worth doing a bit of work and having it as your no.2! One question I have: I have a similar problem with my 60s strat, where I play with a thick string gauge and high action and my vintage frets struggle to cope and tend to fret out during vibrato bends. Is it worth me learning to refret the guitar with jumbos myself or having a guitar tech do it? I'm on a budget you see. Cheers :)

Hey man, so I own a signature Eric Johnson strat that essentially has a Texas style setup, (without the f hole) and I’m just wondering if you know somewhat affordable fender amps that I can use to kinda get that similar Stevie tone. Not really looking for an actual 59’ bassman or anything like that, but something that will do the job. I’m also hooking up two tube screamers in my rig. (One for turning up to max volume and the other for some gain) if you have any suggestions of some nice affordable amps, let me know 👍🏽

Awesome score! If Dick Gruhn has signed that thing off just simply proceed in your personalization ideas and make it your number two! -->Anything beats deluxe tuners-lose hokey back plate-save switch if it's robust-make sure ohms are straight/simpatico with every component when addressing middle coil and delight us again when you recreate this gem of a find! Color? bridge? decal? tree? Nahhh nobody cares as it's bordering as is into the modify realm and seems to rip just fine. JUMBOS????? LOL!!!! Yeah the skinny little brass guys can drive a maniac player even more crazy and thus I'll personally back you on that one!!! Can't wait to see your new '59 lil' brother!!! Cheers! I've had similar ones with the logo's gone that were found to be flood/water damaged when we took them apart so check that out. Man what a dogs breakfast refin why didn't they just piss on it. So much work in rehabbing a guitar like that I guess it comes down to how much you're wanting to spend on it. If you've got poor providence to deal with as well as yet unseen problems that always come up once you begin I'd be thinking of moving it on too (pickup covers aren't orig, nor the output jack, and I'm concerned about the body itself). Great buy for someone just getting into vintage strats who wants to do the work themselves

Apart from refreting it, please Matt, don´t change anything. Its mods and maybe history have turned it into a unique piece. BTW, it sounds heavenly.

This is a prime candidate for a high end refinish. Light, light, light relic, closet classic type of feel. That line under the bridge/over the jack looks like the seam of a 2 piece body. That would lend itself to a solid color. Dakota red/old Sherwood green/Shoreline gold/old candy apple red. Sounds great.

Neopolitan sunburst some of the 60s 70s guitars had that popsicle red finish. Take a meter set it to ohms and when you take the guitar apart test the back of the middle pickup where the wires are soldered in at. To see if its dead... Might just be a bad solder joint. If you need a proper decal let me know I have no use for these other then repair and if you need a fret job Ill do it for 250. N. Texas Pickup might just have a broken wire ive taken them apart and traced the wires back to find the break unwound some till the break then resoldered and they worked again could just be that or cold solder joint.. .. Possible it was refinished in 60s or 70s .
