That Bristol night race was an absolute classic in 2002. I think it doesn’t get as much love as it deserves. All the tempers and the iconic finish between notorious rivals. It just checked all the boxes for a legendary race.

@@ryanmorrison3699 i just wish Marcus would bite the bullet and reconfigure the track back to how it was prior to the 07 reconfiguration. They completely ruined the track and now they try to bring it back by putting sticky crap on the low groove....just repave the track already
@ryanmorrison36994 ай бұрын
@@therobbinsnestAutosport To be fair, the old configuration was usually just a freight train down on the bottom. At least the sticky stuff gives us two grooves to run. Not as much knocking people out of the groove anymore, but Bristol is definitely the best short track on the calendar now because of these two grooves.

@@ryanmorrison3699 I mean for actual racing, I completely agree. But that place had a two year waiting list for tickets prior to 07, people want to see the beating and banging. I mean the second Bristol race in 04 went green forever, to the point Harvick got out of his car and KP replaced him. I mean you can buy an entire section of grandstand tickets at the gate on race morning nowadays. I would just sacrifice the two groove stuff for what sold tickets, just my opinion

@@ryanmorrison3699 but then again, the current leadership in Nascar is about as incompetent as they come. Marcus can't really just make those decisions without their input, so nothing will change any time soon

That Steve Park crash at the beginning of the video was super scary. Was that one of the crashes that put a nail in his career?

I think basically everything post Darlington 01 did him in. He came back way too soon and was a wrecking ball as a result
@Odin3v4 ай бұрын
The Alanta crash IMHO is what did him in the most eventhough it was his rookie year, that just set how things would go. That was still one of the worst non superspeedway wrecks in Nascar to this day.

That 02 Bristol Night Race really showed what an idiot Robby Gordon was as a NASCAR driver. Him spinning Jimmie Johnson out really upset me. That spin took JJ out of the Championship race, he was third in the points, and was really hitting his stride at this time. Could’ve been an interesting Championship fight with Stewart. Also, I really wonder who picked Ryan Newman over Jimmie Johnson for Rookie of the year? Yes Newman won 8 races, but was inconsistent at best, with I believe 6 or 7 dnf’s, but somehow the rookie that was the most consistent that season doesn’t.
