Another regenerative receiver using a ceramic resonator VXO. Pretty much the same as before except using an audio amplifier IC to drive a speaker.
Ceramic resonators available at www.minikits.com.au/components...

I think if you replace the 22nF capacitor that's before the audio amp with another 100nF capacitor, it may cut a little of the high frequencies even though it may cut a little of the audio signal strength as well... but you will have much more pleasant sounds for CW. That's what I did on mine and it sounds wonderful. 73 Peter.

Hi Peter, I tried this circuit with a 40MHz fundamental crystal and an S9018 RF transistor (for a proposed simple up-conversion receiver) and it works but there is no actual amplification from the regenerative detector itself. When using a signal generator the signal disappears below about 1mv for a pure tone or more like 10-100mv for an AM modulated signal. That's the signal directly into the regen with about 40db audio amplification. Is this regen detector meant to amplify as well as detect? It does work well with larger signals but definitely needs a preamp at this frequency. Thanks, Ian

Hi Peter, could we use a 455khz resonator as a fixed I.F Stage\Detector stage using super regen for AM\SSB detector.I would use selectable pots for Am,SSB modes on regen. It would be possible to use in a superhet design, with audio agc control? what you think peter?

"Pulling" is not change in the detector frequency with regeneration adjustment, that's "pushing" -- a term from professional communications design not commonly used by hobbyists of any oscillator. "Pulling" is the phenomenon by which the frequency of a running electronic oscillator, in this case an oscillating regenerative detector, is pulled toward, sometimes even into, synchronization with an injected signal that's nearby in frequency to that of the running oscillator. to make a regenerative detector more resistant to pulling, use a low-Z tank circuit (X of L and C 100 ohms or less at the operating frequency); to minimize pulling, keep the level of signals fed into the detector as low as practicable for the type of reception sought. (Non-oscillating detectors need much higher input signal levels to work well, but they don't frequency pull, either. :-) )

Check wiring and if not successful try other oscillator circuits. Some don't work with all variations of LC values. Change feedback component values or coil tapping points if applicable.

Thanks to the great initial idea by vk3ye, sv3ora has extended it to a far better level, but without making it much more complex. See his page qrp.gr/regenrxcer/ for the two improved versions of the receiver. The one at the beginning of the page is the bare bones version, and the one at the bottom, is the special one. Both versions, include a much better and quieter headphone preamplifier. The special version includes a simple but good performance SSB and narrowband CW filter. There is also no audio oscillation at extreme regeneration values in his version, compared to the vk3ye one. His receiver uses a varicap, which eliminate hand effects, it is cheaper and it can be controlled with precision without special verniers. This is indeed a USB RX without any coils or variable capacitors, and it is a great performer! I have built it and with just 3 resonators, I could cover the hole 40m region 1 band without gaps. Believe it or not, the performance is so good, that I have abandoned listenning to the 40m band using my IC-728. This ultra simple homemade RX is just so much quieter, like the modern $$$$ rigs.
