Lee, looking at those 'done engine' bearings I have seen good rebuilt engines re installed in the car which originally gave trouble and fail shortly afterwards. It can be that an oil cooler collected a load of shrapnel from a blow up and not be properly cleaned out, re connected and send a fresh lot of debris into the good engine.

Sometimes when machining thin wall stuff I used to put a lump of plasticine close to the cut face to try and absorb and damp some of the vibration. With the flywheel we would always leave a tiny witness just so the customer could tell we hadn’t taken too much off!
@TomoHawKzZ2 жыл бұрын
We have a load of little puck shaped magnets which are quite dense and heavy we like to stick to stuff that wants to vibrate/chatter a bit too much with no other way of sorting it. Plasticine could be a good idea for non-ferrous stuff though.

That's brought back memories of when I took out my Mk3 Cortina 1600 OHC Engine on the street back in 1980. Stripped it all down and had it rebored. I then fitted new Pistons,Rings and Shells and rebuilt it. Sadly the bodywork rusted away about a year later. Whoever got that Engine from the scrap yard had a bargain. Those Pinto Engines were so easy to work on.😊👍👍

I'm just going through a old perkins p6 from a 1948 Massey Harris tractor, "that's all been done" turns out it got sandblasted and run. All the new big end and mains got scored. Instead of topping the pistons in a lathe for the bump clearance, they sanded them ?? And fitted the timing chain tensioner the wrong way around. After someone spending ££££'s in new parts. Bearings, pistons & liners etc. Some crazy folks out there.

I'm glad you broached the subject. Whether Lee finds it necessary to run with a sponsor or not is entirely up to him, but it could/would ruin the wonderful trusty raparte this channel has. What's incredibly important for Lee is to know that many watch this channel who pick-up on his exemplary character. If anything, he's too nice for his own good. But again, that's priceless, and attracts all sorts of customers willing to pay the extra for honest advice and work well-done. And that is...well...'priceless'. You don't need 'makeup' Lee! You're a natural, and if you ever do take on a sponsor, make sure they're at a distance, not in the middle of your presentation.

Pretty normal for anything that large to go 'conical' when it gets hot. The outside is in effect moving faster than the inside smaller diameter so gets hotter faster. Should have used a flycutter on the intake manifold, cutting the entire thing in one cut, at least for final cut would have given a better finish. After seeing one of the Cosworth motors you pulled apart with super thick RTV silicon, probably 'best' stuff to use on multi piece gaskets is Hylomar. Rolls Royce developed to not 'set' so if it gets into oil it doesn't block passages or damage bearings. Three Bond 1104 is a 'modern' gasket sealer with similar properties (basically the same as Honda, Yama, Kawa, Suzukibond, etc but only about 12 quid instead of £30)

Do you ever put a masking tape spokes on the kit car wheels and with 3/4 of a tank of fuel. Do some panic stops with cameras running to check brake bias.. 66% on the fronts and 33% on the rears is where cars with the same size tires start out at. Adjustable pressure valves can be used to reduce rear brake pressures to stop the rears from skidding before the fronts.. fronts skidding much before the rears will be like massive understeer and send you into an outer guardrail. Increasing rotor diameter, calipers and pads out farther result in greater front brake bias.

Or stick to hello everyone. As others have said ads aren't strictly the issue, but if you are going to have them consider ones more appropriate to the content in the vid or something you might consider using in line with the business. That said schilling is a bit of a taboo and if it's something you either haven't investigated or isn't something you wouldn't promote free of charge then expect blowback. At the end of the day you know what a warranty is. Ads imply you giving warranty to whatever the ad is selling.

Hey Lee, I really appreciate your apology! Thanks for that. I'm not against ads in general. But Raid is one of these scam games where they loot people with micro transactions. That's why I'm a bit allergic to these ads. 😉 And to the flywheel from the beginning, let them sign something that you did the work on it but don't give any guarantees if it won't work or or even brakes. That it's done because they wanted it to be done. 😉 In Germany it's common that you have to protect yourself in these cases. Keep up the great work! Cheers from Germany Addition: You shouldn't use brake cleaner for mating surfaces. Brake cleaner leaves residue so that the disc's don't rust immediately. Better use IPA or acetone. 😉

6.30....these oilsump gaskets.....they can surely be a serious pain in the behind!!!....very common on GM engines....biggest problem is to keep all 4 parts of the gasket in place until the sump is in place....the curved rubber bits LOVE to straighten themselves towards the shape they had in the package....silicone gasket is way to go when it comes to sealing.....but makes a lousy glue for keeping it all in position... With the engine upside down on a stand in the workshop it is nice and wonderful....when for whatever reason you’re struggling with the engine upright in the car...the front subframe/crossmember between you and Mr. Engine fitting a sump like this is gambling!!....chance of leakage afterward is huge...
@dennissheridan15502 жыл бұрын
I would say if that flywheel is that wobbly, not very thick either, and you cut the face flat, then overall thickness will vary and make it's integrity suspect. Put another way I don't think it would be safe to run.

@@diyhell8712 takes about 10 to 15 mins on a 4 cylinder.... Just use a marker pen to put a black dot on the top of the plug to indicate where the open gap is, then quickly spin it into a socket to check the match. There's no real benefit, it's more avoiding the situation where the open gap faces away, and so the "spark arm" then gets in the way. It might result in 1 misfire in every 1000 cycles, but ultimately that would rob you of some power and smoothness, and might result in a sooty burn from one cylinder
