You will have to ask for a deposit up front and then stage payments when you order the parts with a final payment when they pick the engine up, you don't need the hassle of the small claims court to often! Hope he pays up soon.

Keyless pulleys ,, designed by same people that designed the wet belt 🤷♂️🤦♂️
@lynjames4306Күн бұрын
This keyless pulley is only a money making game requires more time tools that a simple locking device would be there fitted holding the gears in place, I left the motor trade in 2006 Due to time if 1.5 hrs timing belt Now taking 6 hours + Wet belt and the timing chain behind the Flywheel was designed to kill the Petrol Diesel Engine 100% Thow away rubbish 😡✌️

Some modern engineering and designers do not live in reality, a bit like the BRITISH Government!
@neilmchardy9061Күн бұрын
In engineering we often use a plain mandrel held with a bolt or a nut to do some fairly rough turning on workpieces and they don’t move. I can understand the insecurity on a tuned engine but the amount of friction on the cam pullys is quite phenomenal. I’m not dismissing the notion of pinning it but I’m not sure it’s strictly necessary. Just my ten penneth.
@Judith-c6rКүн бұрын
@ hi, yes used them myself but I would not guarantee that interference for the life of an engine. Or perhaps engines are not being built for long term. I know some three cylinder car engines which aren’t expected to last more than 50K miles, so probably showing my age.
@stuartmorris3407Күн бұрын
I wouldn't rely on just a key to take the drive from a pulley, I doubt if it would be strong enough. Also I'm surprised you rely on a countersink bit in a Jacobs chuck, which in itself is not particularly accurate, to align the sprocket prior to drilling. How about a center finder or clocking it with a dti.

Lee, you need to have phased payments. For example, 1st payment is materials, second payment machining, 3rd payment assembly. The order description payment and splitting is academic. You just need to be in a position of fiscal security. The above is an example. Just be ahead of the game for monies. It might seem like more effort initially, but once you've established the process, non payers are not an issue.
@dennissheridan1550Күн бұрын
Steve, doing things that way involves a lot of bookkeeping and paperwork. Give the customer an estimate +/- x% so they can get the money together before the work starts.

Don't engage with that un-paying customer. Just reply saying that the account has now been referred to the courts for a Summary Judgement, which will kill his credit rating. A Summary judgment is a court order - judgment - which brings litigation to an end early. The legal proceedings are brought to an end when, at a hearing of a summary judgment application, a court finds that the the defence has no real prospect of success. The application must be real and not false, fanciful or imaginary. The burden of proof rests with the applicant to show that the other side has no real prospect of success, and that there is no other compelling reason for a trial. ( ie the defendant cannot claim that he advised you that he is trying to get the money together, as this will be an admission that he owes the debt. )

If you are dealing with a bonafide company then a credit account is understandable, if you are dealing with a one off customer or an unknown company cash before the work done is released. In your terms and conditions if bill is not settled within 3 months after notification work completed then the article will be sold to recover your costs for parts and labour. The other alternative is monthly interest.

My old mate who built "Savage" editions using 3.0 Essex V6's into MK1/2 Cortina estates moved on to putting Cossie engines into MK3 Transits, he even managed to put a full Cosworth Ultima engine and mated box into a later Transit he used to show off at Bromley motor pageant his insane vehicles. I remember him hooning me about in his 3 litre MK1 Escort van, obligatory fandango phat wheels at back and jacked up, Salisbury diff and wheelbarrow straight pipes, man that was scary as jeff. Back in the mists of time I had one of Cossie's Essex based V6's given to me ensconced within a ratty MK2 Crapri think it was a hoary old JPS painted banana yellow rotten as heck round its back end but driveable and ran like liquid runs off a shovel... I kinda buggered it all up when with an angle grinder and no brains mate and I "converted" it by cutting the roof off and it was cool as anything until I went over the first speed hump and its back broke...

Don't stress about the kit car. Treat it as a learning experience. Once it is mechanically sorted you can auction it off, to recover your investment. Once you sell the kit car you can invest in a CNC machine, then you can start to manufacture and sell race car and race engine components. ( like brake kits, pulley kits, and other parts made from billet )

You have a repairers right of Lien on the work on the engine. Tell him it'll be sold to recover your costs. Quite legal.
@ataxpayer723Күн бұрын
You can also ask for a Summary Judgement. This prevents the defendant for saying " I dispute the account", as a way to delay the entire debt collect process. With a Summary Judgement you can then go straight to enforcement, thereby avoiding the defendant from arguing a case in the Disputes Tribunal. " Barum never told me that the engine would need xyz" etc
