This was fun again! Have you done Ode to Sleep? Lane Boy? Ride? I think you only did Car Radio, right? Those are my next 3 suggestions. There are a million more. And his singing, rapping, melodic speaking, rhythmic taking is all along the spectrum from beautiful singing to straight up rapping. Ooh , Heavydirtysoul is another one. There are 3 videos that go along with but after that which are a sequence. It would go Heavydirtysoul, Jumpsuit, Nico and the Niners, and Levitate. You don't have to do those yet. But don't do them out of order. I mean you can. You're a grown up and you can do what you want, but they are better in order. Just keep going! You're doing great. It has been a thing for some reactors to have the lyrics handy but don't read along, just refer to them if you need to.

Twenty One Pilots, or TØP for short, was started by Tyler Joseph with 2 of his friends in Columbus Ohio. They released one album, which was self titled, in 2009 before the other 2 left because of family and other personal reasons. Tyler and Josh Dun had met at a venue after being introduced to each other by one of the original members of the band, and they quickly connected and became best friends, and Josh was the first one Tyler asked to fill the spots left by the other two members. It's been just the two of them ever since. Their first album together, Regional at Best, released in 2011, is not available anywhere except KZbin, as after it was released they signed with the record label Fueled By Ramen and redid about half the songs from that album for their next one Vessel, which was released in 2013. This is when they first started to gain some real traction outside of Ohio. The album focuses a lot on themes of mental health, suicide, depression, death, and how day and night can affect our moods. It's my favorite album of all time, with Migraine being my favorite song ever. In 2015 came the big blowup in popularity with their album Blurryface. Stressed Out reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won them a Grammy, and Ride hit #5. They went on 2 worldwide tours for this album. Blurryface is a character Tyler created to represent all of his depression, insecurities, anxieties, etc. and each song deals with some of those things. Their big tour ended in 2016 and the guys went on a very long hiatus, with no social media presence, no new music, etc. Before the hiatus they were asked by DC to make a song for the Suicide Squad movie, and they came up with Heathens, which is Tyler kind of roasting his fans, who were pretty toxic at the time. It fits right along with the Suicide Squad movie though. Tyler said that he submitted this and if the studio didn't like it then they would have just put this on their next album. This hit number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 I believe and I think they were nominated for a Grammy for it. In 2018 they released their album Trench. It's a concept album about a place called Trench with a city called Dema, where bishops control the people and make them feel depressed. The album is about trying to escape Dema, which is a metaphor for beating our own thoughts. It continues the story of Blurryface as well. The guys also released 2 singles in 2020 not connected to any albums: Level of Concern, a song about the state of the world and quarantine, and Christmas Saves the Year, which is exactly what it sounds like. They just released their 6th album, Scaled and Icy, which is both short for "scaled back and isolated", referring to the quarantine setting in which they wrote it, and an anagram for "Clancy is dead", Clancy being a character they established in the Trench era. None of their songs sound even remotely the same. I believe Tyler is one of the greatest lyricists and songwriters of all time, what he can do with words is amazing.

***** THE HYPE (BERLIN - LOCATIONS SESSIONS) and CUT MY LIP (SESSIONS - RECONSTRUCTED) ***** You’ll lose your mind at the beats and the vibe, the dude is one of the sickest producers on top of singer/songwriter/musicians I’ve ever seen. It those 2 videos, you can physically watch him produce the track as he performs it. It’s nasty. And he’s got BARS for fucking days. He’s one in a million talented. One in a BILLION. And he’s got the voice of an angel. His music is always deep, poetical, and has purpose. Go all the way down the rabbit hole, you won’t regret it. Tyler Joseph (lead singer) and Josh Dunn (drummer). They’re a duo, and they write all their own music.

Loved this reaction! My favorite remark was “He’s so good he’s giving me a migraine.” 😹😹😹 Tyler writes all of the lyrics. And anything that turns into spoken word usually started off as poetry. You’re right, he has a very unique cadence and delivery style. There’s a lyric in Heavydirtysoul “This is not rap this is not hip hop, Just another attempt to make the voices stop.” He writes music because he needs it. And he has such a gift. The subject matter usually deals with some deep struggles, including mental health issues, insecurities, suicidal thoughts, but they have a gift of making the music so uplifting. Their music has had a legit impact on countless people who have used their music to get through tough times. Josh is a beast on those drums! They make such a powerful duo.

Tyler sings, writes and produces the songs, Josh plays the drums and sometimes contributes to composing but mostly vibes and is there to provide whatever beat Tyler needs while he's composing. They're best friends and it's just the two of them. The monotone rap isn't something Ty always does but the two songs you've reacted to are from the bands early days and he did do it a bunch back then. They talk a lot about mental health; specifically suicide and depression. Tylers lyrics have helped me feel heard and understood when i felt overwhelmingly alone. Tyler sings, writes the songs, and creates the beats. He raps with many different styles, also is among the best pure singers with the best vocal control that there is. You will see when you get further in the TOP journey. He is also among the best metaphor writer in his songs as he ties Christian themes with other topics leaving it open to interpretations whether you are a Christian or not one at all. “ode to sleep” and “lane boy” are good follow ups to this and gives you incite into the band. Then you will be hooked and find that they do not make a bad song.

Great reaction..you were asking about whether the lead singer writes all their songs. Check out what Rolling Stone magazine wrote about song writing these days: Rolling Stone reviewed data on 10 years of music hits and found that, over the last decade, only 4% of the year-end Top 50 songs have come from an individual. And the figure drops to 3.2% if you count by number of unique songwriters. (Twenty One Pilots’ Tyler Joseph wrote three of these single-writer songs, as did Calvin Harris.) In combining these lists, it appears that it takes, on average, five writers to write a hit song.

@@jakeworm4178 yeah, I absolutely love Ode to Sleep! I was lucky enough to see them perform it live last month in London when they opened with it on the first night of the Takeover Tour! Night 1 was at a small 300 capacity venue that was so small, Tyler couldn’t do his huge jumps as he’d hit his head on the ceiling! Literally only room for the piano and Josh’s drums! We also went to night 3 in London where the capacity was 3,500, still really small for a band like tøp! It was brilliant as well - not as many older tracks, but still lots from Vessel - so I was happy! I didn’t discover them until I heard HeavyDirtySoul soul somewhere and loved it. Then my kids started getting really into them and after one listen through of Vessel, I was hooked! I’ve been lucky enough to see them live a few times now - best experience ever!
